These Forged Tool Posts are fitted wíth hardened rest buttons and heat treated alloy bínding screws. The shank end ís slotted for drívíng purposes and engages the drive pin in the turret.
Bullard Forged Hígh-Speed Cutters, described on Page 3 of thís section, are used in these Tool Posts. Líkewíse, these holders wíll accommodate standard stellíte and carbíde tipped Cutters, and the popular Shankless Bit Tool Holders.

The folĺowíng tool shapes wíll cover most tool set-ups. These Hígh-Speed
steel tools are forged to shape and cuttíng angles rough ground. These standard shapes can be furnished wíth stellite or carbíde típs, and prices wíll befurníshed upon request.

BULLARD MULTIPLE CUTTERS AND REAMERS
This illustration shows a complete set of cutters and reamers for producing a threaded hole. The hook may section of the bar shows the backing and inserted hardened seat for the reamers.
The cutter and thread chasers shown can be used in the square cutter slot of this bar.
Internal cutters and thread chasers cannot be used for external work. External cutters and tools are in Section I, Page 5.
Spiral Bullard Multi-Bar System
The Bullard Multi-Bar, as used in the turrets of Bullard Vertical Turret Lathes, is a multipurpose bar. The operations of chamfering, boring, reaming, and threading are all done with the same bar. The Multi-Bar has a square broached cutter slot provided with an adjustable backing-up screw, as shown in the broken-away portion of the bar illustrated to the left. To generate a hole, a set of three cutters and two reamers is used. The cutters are slipped in and out of the Multi-Bar in sequence: chamfering, rough boring, and true boring. Observation stops on the micrometer dial of the cross-feed screw are used for rapid setting to repeat sizes on succeeding pieces. When true boring has been completed, the main head is set on dead center with the aid of a center stop on the machine, and the reamers are inserted in the rectangular slot of the bar. The sizing reamer is used first to ream the hole to within a few thousandths of its final size, leaving a uniform amount of stock to be removed by the finishing reamer. Since the reamers are free to float in the Multi-Bar, the danger of producing eccentric holes is eliminated. Always stop the machine before withdrawing the reamer from the hole.
It is recommended in a set-up of this kind that a set of reamers be kept undisturbed for each size of hole to be produced. In this way, speed and economy are achieved because valuable set-up time is saved, and the equipment is spared the waste of repeated grindings for various hole diameters. The Multi-Bar also accommodates the Standard Thread Chasers and Bottom Boring Cutter described on Page 9 of this section.

Boring Bars and Reamer Bars
For tool set-ups permitting the use of separate Boring and Reamer Bars, see data on these Bars on Page 6 of this section. The Boring Bar is the same as the Multi-Bar with the cutter slot only, and the Reamer Bar has only the Reamer slot.
Because Bars may become slightly distorted under severe boring conditions and because Reamers in such Bars will not produce true holes, we are now offering these individual Bars for boring and for reaming.

BULLARD STANDARD REAMERS
Sízíng Reamers for use in Bullard Mu1ti-Bars and Bullard Reamer Bars are desígned for removíng all but the last few thousands of stock from holes whích have been prevíously rough and true bored, leaving a uniform amount of stock for finish. Finishing Reamers then bríng them to final síze and finish.
The bodies of these reamers are made from a good grade of carbon tool steel. The blades are All adjusting screws, binding screws, and nuts are hardened.
The adjustíng screws in the top of the reamer body are used to adjust FIG. the blades to the requíred size and provide backing for them. When the correct settíng has been obtained, plus a few thousands allowed for grindíng, the clampíng screws are tíghtened, and the reamer set up in the grínding fixture and ground as descríbed on Page 11.
Reamers wíth stellite or carbíde típped blades can be supplied on spe-
cial order.
Specíal reamers other than those lísted in the table can be furnished and
be quoted on after receípt of prínts showíng requírements.
A Reamers should be selected from the table below wíth reference to the síze of hole and the Multí-Bar or Reamer Bar in whích they are to be used.

BULLARD STANDARD THREAD CHASERS AND BOTTOM BORING CUTTERS
Standard Thread Chasers for use in either Bullard Multi-Bars or Boring Bars are made of High-Speed Steel and ground to the angles shown on the drawing. Solid Stellite or cemented carbide-tipped cutters can be supplied on special order.
Note first that either Multi-Bar No. U-29314 or No. U-29315 is used depending on the work. These cutters and reamers are used for boring to the bottom of blind holes or counterbores, and for facing counterbore steps. On an order for one Multi-Bar, No. U-29315, with cutters and reamers for a 3-inch hole in cast iron, we would supply the following items as shown by the table below:

BULLARD REAMER GRINDING FIXTURE STANDARD REAMERS
The use of the Bullard Reamer Grinding Fixture facilitates the proper grinding of reamers with the removal of a minimum of material from the blades. Correctly ground reamers save production time and minimize rejections. With this fixture, the angles on one cutting edge are always exactly duplicated on the other, and all reamers will be ground alike.
The Fixture is simple to use. It may be readily clamped with T-Bolts to a plain or universal table of any tool grinder. Keys in the base align the fixture with the table. All settings of the fixture are positive, and changes from one setting to another may be made rapidly. There are no graduations to approximate. Reamer Holders are positively located on the spindle and may be easily interchanged. Two sizes of holders cover the entire range of Bullard Reamers, one taking sizes from 1/8 to 3 1/2 inches, the other from 2 7/8 to 6 inches. This operation can be done by holding the reamer in a standard vise on any tool grinder.

The Body is piloted to swivel on the Base. The Headstock Spíndle ís steel, hardened and ground, and ís mounted on two roller bearíngs packed with heavy oil and permanently sealed. Reamer Holders, Index Pin, and Detent are made of hardened steel. The

The 3-Jaw Combination Chuck, which has both independent and universal jaw movement, offers definite advantages over the plain type 3-Jaw Chucks, which have universal movement of jaws only. With the Combination Chuck, the jaws may be individually offset to meet irregular shapes and then operated with universal jaw movement for repetitive chucking.

BULLARD FOUR-JAW INDEPENDENT CHUCK
Either this Chuck or Plain Table is optional equipment for the 54 Vertical Turret Lathe. The Plain Table can also be furnished for the 24, 36, and 42 Bullard machines if the 3 or 4 Jaw Chuck is not desired. Requirements should be specified when ordering the machine.
In this chuck, there is no scroll plate, and therefore, it has independent movement only. Chucking rigidity is increased in the 4-Jaw Chuck because of the additional jaw. It is well adapted to holding heavy work of large diameter, either regular or irregular shape.
Top jaws are mounted on sliding members to accommodate a variety of diameters. They may be reversed or removed entirely to permit the mounting of special top jaws or fixtures. For Top Jaw Data, see Pages 3, 4, and 5 of this section.

STANDARD HARD TOP JAWS
These jaws are made from hardened alloy steel. The bottom and tops of the jaws are ground to maintain a level between the table surface and the work. They are provided with permanent keys and may be secured in any one of numerous positions on the sliding member according to the required work diameter. It should be noted that these, like other Bullard Jaws, are designed to be readily removed or reversed for various conditions of chucking requirements.
Where jaws are subjected to extremely severe service and for gripping rough, unfinished surfaces, these jaws are recommended.
Filler blocks, in many cases, are a valuable adjunct to all top jaws. See Page 11 of this section.
For holding work on finished surfaces, we suggest the use of Bullard Soft Jaws as illustrated on Pages 4 and 5 of this catalog section.
Order Jaws by Unit Number and state the number required. They are furnished complete with accessory equipment required for securing them to the table.

These are cast iron jaws drílled for securing screws and finíshed on the bottom only. They are províded with permanent keys and may be secured in any one of numerous posítíons on the sliding member according to the required work diameter. They are readíly removed and reversed.

WIDE SOFá TO JAWS
Líke the Bullard Standard Soft Jaws, these are cast íron, drilied for securíng screws and finíshed on the bottom only. They are provided wíth permanent keys and may be secured in any one of numerous positíons on the sliding member, accordíng to the requíred work diameter. They are readíly removed and reversed.
An exceptíonally wíde gríppíng surface ís províded in order to obtaín well dístríbuted and sufiïcíent holding pressure to securely chuck work havíng finíshed surfaces and thín cross-sectíon areas. It wíll be found that thís type of jaw when machíned to the exact diameter of the work wíll hold work securely wíthout surface dents and dístortíon of shell-líke sectíons.

BÜLLABB INDEPENDENT FACE-PLATE JAWS A set of these jaws will be found invaluable in plain table work where large pieces must be held secure under heavy cuts.
The base ís made from a steel forgíng, accurately machined. The top jaw, a steel forgíng, hardened and ground, ís actuated by a hardened steel screw.
They are desígned for uníversal boríng mill use and wíll fit either parallel or radíal Tee slots at any locatíon on the table. For parallel slots, use the four bolt holes on the sídes of the base; for radíal slots, use the holes on the ends.
If accessory equípment such as listed on Page 8 of this catalog sectíon ís requíred for securíng the jaws to the table, the desíred ítems and quantity must be spećífied separately when orderíng the jaws.

BULLARD INDEPENDENT FACE-PLATE JAW
In this instance, four Bullard Independent Face-Plate Jaws have been used for chucking a heavy cast iron piece externally. The site O.D. of the work is to be rough and finish turned while the top is faced. The rough O.D. has been taken on the rough O.D. while the top surface is being faced. The table illustrated is a Plain type with parallel and radial slots.

Bullard Screw Dogs have forged steel bodies fitted with cone-pointed screws of hardened steel.
Screw Dog No. U-29307 is comprised of the following parts:

They are designed for holding work where the surface to be gripped is of a small or roughened area. The angular down and inward pressure forces the work against the table, thereby assuring firm seating and holding.

TOP JAW FILLER BLOCKS
Bullard Top Jaw Filler Blocks are used to increase the height of any of the standard Bullard Top Jaws as referenced on Pages 3, 4, and 5 of this section.
These filler blocks are heat-treated and ground on the top and bottom to ensure seating of the top jaw in parallel with the table surface. Permanent keys are provided on the bottoms, and the top surface is slotted to receive the top jaw key. Securing bolts should be ordered separately.

TOP JAW FILLER BLOCKS IN USE
Filler Blocks are used to raise the jaws for effective gripping on a heavy steel forging, which is necessary when the holding surface of the work is too high to be reached by jaws set directly on the table.

T-Bolts are an almost indispensable item, usable for a large variety of chucking set-ups, especially under such conditions as illustrated on pages 8, 10, and 13. To meet various requirements, they are available in several lengths.
These T-Bolts are used for securing Bullard independent face-plate jaws, rest blocks, screw dogs, and securing straps to the face-plate.
To meet the extreme stress placed upon T-Bolts, Bullard has specified forged steel in the construction of these items.

The Bullard 3-Jaw Combínatíon Chuck has both índependent and uníversal movement, and offers definíte advantages over the plain type 3-Jaw Chuck, whích has universal movement of jaws only. Wíth the Combinatíon Chuck, the jaws may be indívidually offset to suít írregular shapes and then operated with universal jaw movement for repetítíve chucking.
The Bullard 3-Jaw Combination Chuck is made for the 30 and 36 Cut Master Vertícal Turret Lathes. It may also be supplied, but ís not recommended for the 42 machíne.

The Bullard 4-Jaw Independent Chuck ís made for the 30, 36, 42, or 54 Cut Master Vertical Turret Lathe. The plain table is also available for the 54 machíne, and is always used on the 64 machine. The type of tab]e requíred should be specífied when ordering machíne.
The jaws in the 4-Jaw Chuck have índependent movement only, and because of the addítíonal jaw, chuckíng rígídity ís íncreased. This chuck, therefore, ís well adapted to holding work of large díameter and of regular or írregular shapes.
