DESCRIPTI0N  headstock
The headstock ís of the all-geared type wíth a range of 12 speeds in exact geometríc progression from 35 to 1500 г On request the speed range may be 23 to 1,000 oг 46 to 2,000 г The great thickness, smooth outline and ínternal ribbíng combíne to give the head-stock gearbox absolute rígì speed change gears are of níckel-chrome steel, case hardened and ground. Speed changing is effcted by movement of one lever only on the front of the headstock to move the sliding gears to the appropríate posítì sliding gears are
mounted on spline shafts in nickei-chrome steel, hardened and ground, and running on ball bearíngs. Efficient lubrícatíon ís ensured by a mechanicaI pump incorporated ín the headstock and operated by the first drìve shaft.
spíndle
The main spindle is of adequate dimensíons to resíst workíng loads.
It is manufactured in nickel-chrome steel, case hardened and ground to a mirror finish and it ís bored 2 diameter. It is mounted on Gamet high precision roller bearings. The spindle nose ís normally supplied with the cam-lock flange of the appropríate díameter, but ít can also be supplied on request with the type long taper, or the type ASA 6 short taper.
clutch
The single drive pulley is co-axial with a double multí-plate dísc clutch of adequate dimensions to transmít the maximum Ioad likely to be required of the machine. One clutch operates the forward dírectíon of the spindle, and the other the reverse dírection. When the clutch lever ís In the centre posítíon the spíndle ís brought to a stop by

screw-cuttíng and feed gear box
The quíck change screw cuttíng gI:ar box has been the subject of specíal care by the designers. Metric, Whitworth, Modul and díametral pitches can be cut wíthout the use of change gearsA. uníque feature of the gear box is that the gears used for screw cutting are entirely separate from those used for longitudinal and cross feeds ensuríng a constant and lastíng hígh degree of accuracy. As a safety precautíon, screw
cutting and feed motors are ínterlocked preventíng eíther beíng engaged whílst the other ís in operatí screw-cuttíng gear box ís totally enclosed and lubricatíon ís províded by the headstock pump. Great care has been exercised to ensure that all components are of dimensions consistant wíth theír partícular functíon.
saddle
The saddle, cross slíde and apron are all of adequate proportíons to ensure perfect stabilíty under maximum cutting loads. The saddle may Ьe locked in position on the 6ed by means of a lever. The under-surface of the saddle ís províded wíth adjustable stríps for the reduction of clearance to the minimum. A Iong cross slíde is provided with
two tee-slots on the rear half for mountíng a rear toolpost íf requíred.
A tapered gib strip is provided on the cross slíde. The top slide ís arranged to swível and is graduated for short taper turníng. The traverse length of the top slide is unusually long and this slíde also, is provided with a tapered gib strip. The saddle slídeways are lubricated by means of a hand pump.
apron
The apron ís of the totally enclosed box type wíth automatic lubrícatíon  ,a pump. On the front of the apron are the selector levers for Il of longitudinal and cross feed and for engagement of rígídly on the bed 6=by means of a large hand lever. Crosswise displa-
the Iutting leadscrew nut, also the hand wheels for longítudínal cement ís províded for Iong taper turning between centres. 

The tail and cross traverse, both of which are graduated, allow precise adjustments. The longitudinal hand stock spindle is of large dimensions and manufactured from nickel-chrome steel, case-hardened and ground. The tailstock guiding bore is of unusual length, providing adequate rigidity. The tailstock spindle leadscrew is fitted with a handwheel and graduated dial for gauging depth during drilling and boring operations. Axial thrust on the tailstock spindle is managed by an adjustable thrust bearing.

The tailstock handwheel can be disengaged to prevent rotation during thread cutting. An interlocking mechanism prevents simultaneous engagement of the feed motion with the thread-cutting motion. A safety device in the apron prevents overloading of the feed gearing in the event of excessive feed pressure. This safety device operates on both longitudinal and cross feeds and disengages the feed if the slideways are locked.

Coolant System
The coolant tank, enclosed in the right-hand pedestal, is fitted with a high-duty centrifugal electric pump connected to the standard pipes and fittings.

Bed
The double-wall bed casting, of generous dimensions, has been designed to withstand heavy loads and vibrations without distortion. It is made from heavy-duty, high-grade cast iron with carefully situated ribs to ensure maximum stability. The slideways are induction-hardened and precision-ground.

Electrical Equipment
The electric control gear is mounted on a carefully insulated panel housed in the left-hand leg of the machine. Protection for the 5-6-8 HP main motor, the electric pump motor, and the terminal board with three fuses are conveniently mounted on the panel. Push-button controls are located on the removable front door panel.

Tailstock
The tailstock is of particularly robust design. It is mounted on the bed and aligned using a separate vee way. It may be locked securely to the bed to ensure stability during operations.
