 Generalities:

It is essential to define the loop configuration between the machines and its control, which will properly suit the application. Reserve of material is necessary due to the speed difference of the machines and the sequential feed lengths of the feeding equipment. Good running of the line will rely on an appropriate loop configuration and a proper selection of the loop control device.

Loop Controls Available for Motorized Decoilers M Type:

02701 Dancer-arm Loop Control Dancer-arm loop control suits non-delicate material applications. Start-stop and tight loop E-stop functions are accomplished with 3 micro-switches. The dancer-arm is equipped with a roller which follows the material and prevents it from bouncing at the start of the decoiler.

02703 Loop Control with 2 Touch-probes This type of loop control suits narrow strips only from conductive material. Loop sensing is accomplished with 2 touch-probes fitted in a free-standing frame including adjustable side guides (300mm max) and monitors start-stop functions of the decoiler. Tight loop Emergency Stop is achieved by a safety micro-switch.

02705 Loop Control with 1 Touch-probe This type of loop control is only suitable for conductive materials. The touch-probe is attached to the decoiler base under the coil and monitors stops of the decoiler. Start is controlled by an adjustable time-delayed relay.

Loop Controls Available for Variable Speed Decoilers and Straighteners VV Type:

02715 Dancer-arm Loop Control Dancer-arm loop control suits non-delicate material applications. Regulation of the loop and speed of the machine is accomplished with a potentiometer connected to the dancer-arm. Stop and tight loop E-stop functions are achieved by 2 safety micro-switches. The roller of the dancer-arm follows the loop and prevents bouncing at the start of the equipment. Maximum speed can be adjusted by a digital potentiometer depending on the average speed of the line.

02716 Ultrasonic Loop Control This loop control suits narrow strips with a maximum width of 300 mm. The ultrasonic loop control works without contact with the material and is mounted in an independent frame of 1-meter height. The regulation of speed depends on the distance between the material and the ultrasonic sensor.

The sensor is placed in a floor-mounted enclosure with 2 adjustable side bars to prevent narrower strips from swinging. Maximum speed can be adjusted by a digital potentiometer depending on the average speed of the line. Stop and tight loop E-stop functions are achieved by 2 photo-cells mounted in a free-standing base with manual height setting.

02718 Ultrasonic Loop Control Under Coil Only This loop control suits strips with a minimum width of 100 mm from any kind of material. The ultrasonic sensor monitors the loop and the speed of the decoiler with no contact on the material. The sensor is placed in a floor-mounted enclosure placed under the coil at the centerline. Maximum speed can be adjusted by a digital potentiometer depending on the average speed of the line. Stop is achieved by 1 photo-cell mounted in a free-standing base with manual height setting.

PFS Feeding System

The PFS Feeding System enables full automatic monitoring according to the press rate and allows an incremental feed-length correction while the press is in production. Feeder speed and decoiler braking torque parameters are automatically set, which reduces stresses on the material and makes it possible to work without a loop pit. Our new OPTI-MASTER and SIMO-STAR servo-controlled systems include the PFS functions.

For straighteners, the MAR (Motorization Assisted Regulation) option is essential to integrate into the PFS system. The MFA (Motorization and Assisted Brake) version allows decoilers to be integrated into the PFS system as well.

Option MFA Motorization and Assisted Brake: Both variable speed drive automatic regulation brake running modes are integrated.

Variable Speed Drive Mode:

Working with Loop Under the Coil: Decoiler speed control is achieved by a closed loop system using a 4-quadrant AC motor with a built-in encoder and a vectorial variator. A PID regulator is integrated into the variator and monitors the decoiler speed according to the line speed analog input, maintaining a programmable constant loop height using an ultrasonic sensor.

Measurement of Coil Outside Diameter: A second ultrasonic sensor measures the coil outside diameter, allowing the same line speed during the complete coil uncoiling.

Programmable End of Coil Alarm: This feature informs the operator when there is only a small amount of material left in the coil, providing high dynamic performance.

Tension Control Mode:

Loop-free Working Mode: In this mode, the AC motor is used as a brake, and the variator regulates the decoiling tension force by monitoring braking torque according to the coil's outside diameter, measured by an ultrasonic sensor. Tension force is programmable by the operator.

Motorization and Assisted Brake: Integrated with two regulation modes.

Variable Speed Drive Mode: Working with loop under the coil, maintaining constant speed and height with ultrasonic sensors.

Tension Control Mode: Loop-free mode, using the AC motor as a brake, regulated by the variator and ultrasonic sensor. 

Regulation of Speed for the Straightener

Regulation of the speed of the straightener is accomplished with a vectorial variator coupled to an AC motor with a built-in encoder, allowing closed-loop control. A PID regulator is integrated into the variator and monitors the straightener speed according to the line speed analog input, maintaining a programmable constant loop height using an ultrasonic sensor. This sophisticated drive offers a very high level of dynamic performance.

PFS Function

The PFS function is built into the feeder servo-control and automatically calculates the speed of the line according to the feed length and press rate.
