Demoor 821 oil-field lathe

The DEMOOR OIL-FIELD Lathe in its different sizes is a machine especially designed for the machining of oil tools, drill collars, couplings, and valves.
Today's machine is the result of continuous improvements made in relation to the needs and wishes of our customers. This is the result of many years of experience.
Especially adapted for the oil field industry, this machine combines very high productivity with perfect quality of the machined workpieces.

The headstock is strongly built and reinforced, and is resistant to all strains, even the heaviest machining.

Hollow spindle: Very rigid, made of special chrome-nickel steel mounted on TIMKEN taper bearings of high precision.

24 gearbox speeds in two ranges.

Double multiple-disc friction clutch.

All shafts run on taper roller bearings.

All gears in the headstock are made of high tensile, specially treated nickel-chromium steel. The faces of the teeth are ground.

The sliding gears move on splined shafts, ground all over.

A pump inside the headstock ensures the lubrication of the bearings, gears, and clutches. A magnetic oil filter is provided outside on the inlet pipe.

Brake: Two brakes act simultaneously and automatically when the friction clutch is disengaged. The first one is hydraulic with multiple discs, and the second one is a disc mounted around the spindle that acts directly on the same.
This mounting offers the advantage of obtaining nearly immediate stop of the spindle without acting through the gearing of the headstock.
The spindle end is forged in the shape of a flange according to type USA or DIN spindle noses.

The bed of the DEMOOR lathe is unusually wide and reinforced by the double-wall system. It gives absolute resistance to all strains of flexion and torsion. The bedways are hardened and ground.
On special request: Inserted ways.
The front way is a wide V with unequal size, which allows an increased bearing area to support the high pressure produced by the working tool.
All machines are equipped with a complete coolant system.

Enclosed Quick Change Feed Box

The pitch and feed selecting device is as simple as it is complete: It consists of cams and sliding gears in a totally enclosed box, operated by three buttons. All the shafts run on tapered roller bearings. No approximate or daring solution has been accepted in the design.
The degree of accuracy of the threads is therefore uniformly high throughout the range.
Available without changing any gears:

48 pitches in inches from 2 to 30 threads per inch

48 pitches in metric from 1 to 15 mm

There are approximately 200 different rates of feed available, ranging from 0.4 mm or 0.0016" to 4 mm or 0.16" for sliding, and 0.2 mm or 0.0008" to 2 mm or 0.08" for surfacing.
All pitches in inches used in the oil-field industry are obtainable by direct selection.

Automatic Thread-Cutting Cycle (HYDRO-MINIC)

Allows:

Automatic thread-cutting at high speed with absolute safety and without operator intervention during the threading operation.

Cutting internal and external, conical and straight, left- and right-hand threads over the entire center distance.

Conical thread length limited to 600 mm.

Holding the highest precision thanks to the use of a high precision leadscrew.

Economical machining of small and large series.

The HYDROMINIC consists of a high precision lead-screw, with rotation reversed automatically at each cycle, without opening the leadscrew nut.

A telescopic ball cross-screw motion is synchronized with the reversal of the lead-screw. The telescopic ball cross-screw gives the penetration and withdrawal of the slides as well as the in-feed at each cycle.

A taper turning attachment on pre-loaded rollers is mounted at the rear and connected with the cross ball-screw. The taper turning attachment is part of the standard equipment.

The feed-in at each cycle and the total depth are pre-selected.

For a better surface finish of the thread, the feed-in during the machining of the last cycle is degressive.

Hydraulic Copying Attachment (TUCOP)

Absolutely necessary for internal copying and very useful for external turning.
It is mounted in place of the standard cross carriage.

Consists of a broad slide at a 30° angle relative to the cross motion, mounted on the cross lower slide.

A square revolving tool-post mounted on a longitudinal slide allows fine longitudinal adjustment of the tool.

Like any hydraulic copying device, the TUCOP is actuated by a hydraulic jack.

Five stops act on the faster.

The copying length is 600 mm or 23 3/8 inches, more on request.

Stroke of TUCOP attachment: 165 mm (6 1/2 inches).

The template holder is fixed at the front on the lower slide. A hooking device mounted on the template holder slide can be hooked on a cross support adjustable on the bed.

When the template holding slide is unhooked and the TUCOP device is forward, the copying attachment is out of operation and ready for turning, facing, or thread cutting.

Total Spindle
The spindle could be reduced due to workpiece conditions.

EQUIPMENT

As standard equipment:

The types 823-S-161 are fitted with two 3-jaw self-centering chucks.

The types 825-S-261 and 825-S-360 are equipped with two 4-jaw independent chucks.

Automatic air-operated chucks are available on special request.

IMPORTANT

Please note that continuous improvements to our machine may lead to modifications of the characteristics given in the present catalog.

For producing or repairing drill collars and tubing, it is necessary to use the independent floor steady rest for long tubes, as shown in the illustration. It is mounted on shock absorbers to avoid vibrations caused by the roughness of the wall.
On request, a set of tools specially designed for copying and thread-cutting operations with boring bars, removable heads, and throw-away tips according to specifications are available. This tooling is designed to increase the output of the machine.
