DONAU-Rapid-Radials are predestined to do this. Therefore, our motto is positioning of the spindle head with minimal expenditure of force at stationary workpieces, simultaneously enabling one-hand operation of all operating elements, with an immediate and effective hydraulic clamping system that makes essential shorter positioning times. Our experiences in manufacturing the DONAU-Rapid-Radials are combined in this catalog, providing suggestions for rationalizing drilling operations.

Rapid-Radial combines high force and a very rigid construction with nearly fingertip ease of movement.

Construction of the Machines

1. Spindle Head
Spindle head with gear for drive of drilling spindle by change-pole motor for high change-over frequency.
Speeds manually adjustable, motor protected against overloading by thermo-elements, gear by adjustable safety clutch.

Automatic feed adjustable by knurl button - at running drilling spindle too - and switching on by push button over electro-magnetic clutch.
Feed shut-off by lifting a tilting lever or by adjustable depth stop automatically.

DR 32
Most predestined for drilling as well as tapping.

Control Panel and Control Lever
All electric switches are mounted at the face of the spindle head in the control panel, conveniently arranged for operation with the left hand.
Since clamping for the column and arm can be released as well as the column travel for the spindle head, simultaneous movement in axial, radial, and vertical directions by pressing the switches on the control panel with the same hand is possible.
To operate deep holes, the column will be set deeper without releasing the clamping, and the position of the tool will be preserved exactly.

Mostly used as an automatic tapping machine.

3. Axial Arm and Column
Adjustable column way bearing, carried in machine base and concentrically aligned. Raising and lowering by brake motor, using lead screw with trapezoidal threads, bearing nut, and safety nut. The spindle head is secured against radial twisting, so the tool position is maintained during tool changes or when drilling deeper holes.
Standard design with strong lifting below to protect the column. Axial arm with hardened and ground guideways, diagonally guided in the cross head on robust bearings.

Guide bearings are built in free of play and adjustable by eccentric pin.

Automatic Tapping Setup: For efficient threading without specialized threading chucks, the machine automatically switches to the left spindle direction when a set threading depth is reached.

Coolant System: Includes a large coolant reservoir with a submersible pump for cooling during drilling operations. This helps maintain tool life and workpiece quality.

T-slots and Fixtures: The machines come with vertical T-slots for adding custom fixtures or clamping devices to secure workpieces during operation.

Rotary Handle and Speed Adjustment: Rotary handles allow quick changes in spindle speed or direction, optimizing the machine for tapping and other tasks requiring precise control.
