EMCO MAXIMAT SUPER 11
The combination of the lathe/vertical milling and drilling unit represents technological perfection for use in production with a view to the future. The MAXIMAT SUPER 11 machining center, with its wide range of accessories, enables all visual teaching aids, which increase the precision of tool making, optimal in turning, milling, and drilling operations. Its suitability for toolmaking, die making, and training purposes makes it an ideal choice for use in production. Exclusive basic equipment, exemplary safety features, and a surprising price/efficiency relationship make the MAXIMAT SUPER 11 equally attractive for both industry and technical education.

Potential Uses
The MAXIMAT SUPER 11 is ideal for intricate form production, spare parts manufacturing, model making, and small batches produced quickly and accurately. It is highly suitable for repair workshops, small and large businesses, electro-mechanical workshops, defense and farm work, as well as shipbuilding, military applications, and many other sectors requiring precision and speed in manufacturing.

Machining with the Vertical Milling and Drilling Unit
With the vertical milling and drilling unit accessory, the MAXIMAT SUPER 11 becomes a high-capacity universal machine tool. The vertical head can be swivelled up to 360°, allowing milling and drilling work at any angle without the need for rebuilding or resetting. The unit can be easily mounted at the rear of the lathe bed with 4 screws, and it can be installed at a later time since the necessary electrical connections are already installed in the basic machine. The maximum height between the table cross slide and the spindle nose is 305 mm, allowing work on large workpieces.

Technical Details

The vertical unit has its own drive motor, and 6 spindle speeds from 120 to 2000 rpm in geometrical progression are available.

The MAXIMAT SUPER 11 is designed for constant use by professionals and offers all the technical features of a modern industrial lathe, including drive and power transmission with separate leadscrew and feed shaft.

The machine features a highly rigid, diagonally ribbed lathe bed and large-dimensioned guideways, ensuring high precision and smooth operation.

Constructional Features

Headstock
The headstock is made of vibration-free, strongly ribbed cast iron. The main spindle runs on high-quality adjustable taper roller bearings, with all gears running in an oil bath. The headstock gears are heat-treated for higher precision and quieter operation. The power transfer between the reversing drive and change gear is effected by gear wheels, and all gears run in an oil bath.

Drive
The drive motor is an IEC standard motor, dust- and splashproof according to safety standard IP 54. Power transmission from the squirrel-cage induction motor to the intermediate shaft of the headstock is through a multi-spline flat belt. The poly-V drive belt ensures smooth starting.

Gearbox
The gearbox features sliding change gears of enclosed construction, with optimal power transfer guaranteed by generously-dimensioned gears running in an oil bath. The slipping clutch between the gears and the feed shaft ensures accurate turning to a dead point and protects against overload. The lead screw is used only for cutting threads, and the dog clutch is disengaged for other operations, making the lead screw static.

Made of vibration-free, high-grade cast iron. Located on an individual Vee-guide. For taper turning, it is movable on the tailstock plate and can be clamped with a quick-action tensioning lever. The tailstock is equipped with an inside MT socket No. 2 and is moved axially by a threaded spindle. Clamping is possible in any position. A handwheel fitted with a scale ring allows for precise drilling and boring jobs.
The tailstock is made of high-grade cast iron. The high side walls and strong diagonal ribbing give the bed low vibration and high rigidity. The Vee-guideways are hardened and high-precision ground.

5. Slides
The longitudinal slide runs on the Vee of the bed without play. The length of the guide guarantees extreme accuracy. The cross slide runs on the longitudinal slide in a dovetail guide, adjustable through gib and setting screws. Feed can be automatic or manual by handwheel. Exact positioning is achieved with large-dimensioned scale rings. Both the longitudinal and cross slides can be clamped. The top slide is mounted on the cross slide and can be rotated 360°.

Apron
The apron is of double-wall construction. The feed lever has a lock to prevent accidental movement from longitudinal to transversal feed. The half-nut lever is located on the right side of the apron. The half-nut lever and feed lever are interlocked. A large-dimensioned longitudinal travel handwheel is used for rapid movement.

6. Electrical Housing
The electrical housing contains cable connections and clamps for the electrical connection of the vertical milling and drilling unit, coolant equipment, and machine lamp.

7 and 8. Vertical Milling and Drilling Unit
The vertical head can be swivelled up to 360° and enables milling and drilling work in any required angle.
Thanks to the independent drive motor, 6 spindle speeds are available from 120 to 2000 rpm in geometrical progression.
The maximum height between the cross slide and the spindle nose is 305 mm.
The gear wheels run in an oil bath circulation system, featuring shaved surfaces to guarantee long life and quiet running.

Precision

The milling spindle is free from radial and axial play.

Accurate adjustment is enabled by large, easy-to-read scale rings on the handwheels.

The exact angle adjustment of the milling head is guaranteed by a graduated scale and vernier.

The spindle nuts can be adjusted to be play-free.

Operation

A large, easy-to-reach main switch is provided.

The depth stop is directly adjustable, accurate, and easy to operate.

Reclampable levers are used to fix the spindle sleeve and slides.

The MAXIMAT SUPER 11 machine tool, like many other sophisticated machine tools, uses a well-structured transmission system for effective operation. Below is a breakdown of the key components involved in the power transmission and control for both the longitudinal and cross slides of the machine:

Key Components in Power Transmission for the MAXIMAT SUPER 11:

Drive Motor (1)
The motor provides the primary power to the machine, driving various components through a series of gears and shafts.

Multivariable Belts (2)
These belts help to transmit the rotational power from the motor to the rest of the system.

Countershaft (3)
The countershaft works to transfer the rotational motion from the motor to other components, typically through additional gearing mechanisms.

Main Spindle (4)
The main spindle is where the cutting tools are mounted, and it is driven by the power transmitted through the countershaft and gears.

Reversing Mechanism (5)
This mechanism allows the direction of the spindle to be reversed, enabling both forward and backward motion of the cutting tool.

Gearbox (6)
The gearbox plays a crucial role in adjusting the speed and torque, offering multiple gear ratios to accommodate different machining needs.

Feed Shafts (14)
These shafts drive the feeds for both the longitudinal and cross slides, essential for precise movement during cutting operations.

Worm Gear Wheel (15)
Used for transmitting rotational motion at a 90-degree angle, typically in situations where a high torque and low-speed output are needed.

Sliding Pinion (16)
The sliding pinion interacts with the gear mechanism to ensure smooth transitions between gears.

Leadscrew (11)
The leadscrew is a crucial component for providing the precise linear motion required for threading or moving the workpiece.

Cross Feed Shaft (17)
It moves the cross slide, allowing horizontal movement of the cutting tool relative to the workpiece.

Rack and Pinion (18)
This mechanism enables the movement of the carriage or tool head, translating rotational motion into linear motion.

Additional Features:

Cutting Mechanism (20): The interaction between the various shafts and motors enables precise cutting of materials, essential for machining tasks like turning or drilling.

Dog Clutch (10): This component ensures that the drive system can engage or disengage smoothly, providing flexibility in the transmission of power for different operations.
