Gehring gehring precion honing tools

The original Gehring Precision Honing Tools owe their international reputation and economical worth to more than 35 years of experience in the field of super-finishing and close cooperation with honing machine users worldwide. They permit the production of components fitting to the closest tolerances with optimum contact conditions, even when all other methods have failed. They make it possible to manufacture functionally correct bores with maximum accuracy because of their positive form, which corrects all bore errors.

They can hone drawn, pressed, rolled, or worn bores without any preliminary cutting operation. Its rigid construction ensures maximum accuracy when machining grooved and interrupted bores or slotted, interrupted, or cut bores with ports. The honing tool is driven either rigidly, semi-rigidly, or by means of double joints, depending on the desired effect. The workpiece is located on either a fixed, floating, or universal fixture, according to size, ultimate use, and innate characteristics.

Original Gehring Honing Machines not only produce cylindrical bores, pins, and shafts but also tapered, radially, or axially modified or developed bores. Such machining problems cannot be solved by standard honing tools listed in this brochure. They necessitate the use of special honing tools tailored to suit particular requirements. Some examples of our special honing tools program are indicated on the last page of this catalogue.

For these machining tasks, it is advisable to enlist the assistance of our advisory engineers at the planning stage. Our long and extensive experience is freely at your disposal.

The original Gehring Precision Honing Tools, for a working range of 5-1,000 mm, have been tabulated on the following pages. The appropriate honing tool should be selected from the following: Group 1: honing tool produced in large series and therefore available for short delivery. Group 11: similar in design to Group 1 but with shorter stones. Group 111: similar in design to Group 1 but with longer stones.

These standard honing tools will be suitable for about 80% of honing applications. In addition to these standard honing tools, we also manufacture special honing tools for widely differing applications. A small selection of our special honing tool program is described on the last page.

How to specify Honing Tools Honing tools are identified by reference figures or letters which instantly indicate size, type, and the leading dimensions. For example, a standard honing tool for 14 mm diameter, with 4 shoes, 3 cones, 60 mm long stones, and a connected length center of bayonet ring to bottom face of hone of 200 mm is described as follows: TN 14-4 3/60/200

GEHRING Ostfildern-Nellingen GmbH Co. KG Connection options for Original Gehring Precision Honing Tools Our honing tools are not linked directly but by means of suitable intermediate elements with the working spindle. There are three different possibilities to choose from. Correct linkage of the honing tools is essential for satisfactory results, similarly decisive as the correct selection of stones, cutting speed, etc. Honing tools linkage and work location should therefore be carefully studied as interdependent problems at the planning stage and should be decided in consultation with our experts.
