1948 honing was mainly in use for high precision machining. 1970 honing is a real stock removing production process with a metal removing efficiency up to 40 kg/h and more. At the same time, the bore geometry and the surface finish are improved. An important part of this development is carried out on GEHRING Heavy Duty Honing Machines. They are ranging within the leading top class in the field of high-speed honing. More than 100 modern and efficient GEHRING Heavy Duty Honing Machines in vertical and horizontal construction are in use all over the world. They ensure most economic production and highest possible precision for:
- bore diameter up to 1.500 mm
- bore length up to 12.000 mm (from both ends 24000 mm)
- weight of workpieces up to 130 tons.

Heavy Duty Honing Machines are applied for machining casting moulds, gun barrels, hydraulic cylinders, cylinder liners for heavy-duty engines and compressors, parts of universal- and electro-engineering, etc.
