Giana GGH 1400 turning machine

GGH 1400: four bed guideways, spindle motor power from 71 tot 100 kW, center height from mm 860 tot 1010, turning length more than mm 20000.

GGH 1700: four bed guideways, spindle motor power from 100 tot 180 kW, center height from mm 960 tot 1360, turning length more than mm 20000.

Machine Bed: this largely dimensioned bed is an enbloc contruction positioned directly onto the floor, with several supporting and leveling points to allow it to be firmly fixed to the foundaiton plate.
This machine bed has a fine and highly resistant perlitic structure in cast iron suitible for hardening. Each cast iron part undergoes a thermal stablilization treatment.
The machine bed has a rectangular cross-section and is strongly ribbed. It also has two large flat guideways. A third guideway is also available on the fornt of the machine bed to support the apron and counterbalance the work strains.
The spacious openings located along the entire bed length simplify the discharging of the chips (the system can be optionally fitted with an automatic chip conveyor).
The guideways are instruction hardenend to approximately 450 Brinell and carfully ground.

Headstock
The headstock is made of cast iron and consists of a largely dimensioned casting of strong ribbed box-form designed to ensure the maximum stiffness to the cutting forces and prevent fibrations also during heavy-duty work. The spindle is made of forged NiCrMo steel and has been heat-treated and carfully ground. It is fitted with three bearings: the first two are TIMKEN taper roller bearings, while the third one, on the rear, is a cylindrical roller bearing disigned to further increase the stiffness of the system.
All the toothed gears and shafts of the switch gear are made of NiCrMo steel and are cemented, tempered and ground in order to ensure a noiseless and consistend operation.
The gear-speed changeover is performed hydraulically. the engagement of the different ranges is signaled by means of lyminous indicators. the speed change-over can be performed automatically using the M functions or manually through the corresponding switch on the control panel.
The system is designed to perform cutting operations at constant speed. The spindle speeds are directly programmed in rpm and increase after each single turn. The lubrication of all moving parts is forced and carried out by means of an oil sprinkling sytem, wich can be adjestud through a flow regulator.

Carriages
The performance of the carriage unit is essential to obtain a high output and excellent surface finishes. the remarkeble dimensions of the casting ensure an optimum rigidity of the carriage even when performing heavy-duty work. The third support way ,located at the frond of the bed, prevents the carriage from deflecting. The raper gibs ensure a perfect matching af the cariage and slide, in addition to permitting adjustments. Movement is produced by a reduction gear fitted with precision ball screws with a high load, supported and guided on both sides, that transmit the movement to the two working axes. Due to the high torque and low inertia, these motors also enable a rapid traverse in both directions.
The power transmission in both directions is produced by precision ball screws with a double preloaded screw nut. The longitudinal axis is driven by bouble pinions and precision racks with helical toothing in order to maximize the stiffness of the system and eliminate the axial play on the carriage.
All the guideways of the carriage even at low speeds. The guideways of the carriage and of the cross slide are hardened and ground.
The carriage guideways on the machine bed and cross slide are equiped with an automatic and centralized lubrication system. Appropriate scrapers in plastic, protected by metal cover guards, are fitted at each end of the carriage and cross slide prevent the entrance of dirt.
The carriage is equipped with a central control panel, wich includes also the remote CNC. pendant and all controll and operating instruments designed to optimize the use of the machine.

Electric Equipment.
The electric equipment meets the requirements of IEC international standards. It is housed in a metal enclosure wich is separated from the machine and easily accessible.
All components are high quality products made by leading manufactures.
The machine and numerical control are interfaced by a PLC housed inside the CNC unit, wich controls the operating and diagnostic features of the machine.
All auxiliary circuits operate on low voltage. The connection cables to the machine are protected by sheaths. All the cables on the machine run n steel power chains.
The electric cabinet is fitted with an air conditioner to protect the electric and electronic systems in its interior.

Tailstock
The tailstock is largely dimensioned and consists of two separate parts. The upper part, containing the tailstock quill, can be adjested crosswise. The lower part contains all the parts required to move the unit and the corresponding clamping system.
The correct dimensioning of the tailstock quill is essential to ensure the rigidity of the machine and to prevent vibrations during operations. The tailstock travel along the machine bed is driven by an independant electric motor.
The tailstock is equipped witch:

  • Motor drivin quill motion
  • Hydraullic device to control the thrust applied to the workpiece
  • Incorparated rotary centre
  • Hydraulic unclamping of the tailstock
