Machine bed
The largely dimensioned bed is an enbloc construction and lies on the floor over its whole length. It is provided with different supporting and leveling points, thus allowing a rigid fixing to the foundation. The bed consists of G30 UNI 5007/69 and is cast in an electric furnace in a modern foundry. The casting has a fine pearlitic structure which is particularly suited for hardening. Every cast-iron part is subject to a thermal stabilization treatment.
The machine bed has a rectangular cross-section and is strongly ribbed. It has two large flat guideways. On request, the third guideway can be provided at the front side of the bed for supporting the apron, which also allows excellent counter-balancing of the work efforts.
Spacious openings are located along the entire bed length to facilitate discharging of the chips (on request, it is possible to equip the machine with an automatic chip conveyor).
The guideways are induction hardened to approximately 450 Brinell. These ways are ground in our workshop with the greatest care and accuracy.

The unit consists of a largely dimensioned casting of strongly ribbed box-form to offer maximum stiffness to the cutting forces and to prevent vibrations during heavy-duty work.
The spindle is made of forged NiCrMo case-steel and has been heat-treated and carefully ground. The spindle is provided with three bearings: the first two bearings are TIMKEN taper roller bearings, while the third rear-side bearing is a cylindrical roller bearing to increase the stiffness of the system.
All toothed gears and shafts of the switch gear are made of NiCrMo case-steel and are ground with high accuracy to ensure uniform and silent operation.
Gear-speed change-over is carried out hydraulically. The engagement of the different ranges is shown by control lamps. The speed change-over in automatic mode is done by M-functions and in manual mode by the appropriate switch on the control panel.
The Numerical control allows programming of constant cutting speed. The spindle speeds are directly programmed in RPM with an increment after each single turn.
The lubrication of all moving parts is done by forced circulation with an oil sprinkling system, which is adjustable by a flow regulator.
The spindle rotation drive is obtained by a Siemens A.C. brushless motor with the respective drive control.
The headstock is provided with a control panel having all the necessary control lamps, pushbuttons, and switches. Part loading and centering is facilitated by the spindle jog function from the control panel on the headstock.

Carriages:
The carriage unit's performance is of the utmost importance to obtain high output and excellent surface finish.
The remarkable dimensions of the casting ensure excellent rigidity of the carriage during heavy-duty work. The third support way, located at the front side of the bed, prevents any deflection of the carriage.
Taper gibs ensure a perfect matching of the carriage and the respective slide. Furthermore, they permit adjustment to ensure a long life.
Two Siemens A.C. brushless axis motors with electronic control (transistors) transmit the motion to both work axes. Due to high torque and low inertia, these motors are also used for the rapid traverse in both directions.
The power transmission in both directions is obtained by precision ballscrews with double preloaded screw nut.
Alternatively, the power transmission on the longitudinal axis is obtained by double pinions and precision racks with helical toothing to ensure high stiffness of the system and absolutely no axial play on the carriage.
The guideways of the carriage are coated with special low-friction material to allow accurate and precise movement of the carriage, even at low speeds. The guideways of the carriage and of the cross slide are hardened and ground.
The carriage ways on the machine bed and on the cross slide are equipped with an automatic and centralized lubrication system.
Appropriate scrapers of plastic material, protected by metal cover guards, are fitted at each end of the carriage and the cross slide as protection against any penetration of dirt.
The carriage is equipped with a central control panel involving the remote pendant control from the CNC and furthermore all control and operation instruments for a perfect use of the machine.

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
The electric equipment corresponds to international IEC standards. It is housed in a metal enclosure separate from the machine and easily accessible to facilitate any repair jobs.
All components are high-quality products made by the leading manufacturers in the market.
The interface between the machine and the numerical control takes place through a PLC, housed inside of the CNC unit, which permits operational capacity and diagnostic of the machine.
All control circuits work at low voltage. The connection cables to the machine are protected by sheaths. On the machine, all cables run in steel-made power chains.
The customer can establish where to locate the electrical cabinet relative to the machine location.

TAILSTOCK
The tailstock is largely dimensioned and consists of two separate parts. The upper part, containing the tailstock quill, can be adjusted crosswise. The lower part contains all parts for moving the units and the respective clamping system.
The correct dimensioning of the tailstock quill is very important for the rigidity of the machine and for chatter-free work. The tailstock travel along the machine bed is driven by an independent electric motor.
On request, the tailstock can be equipped with:
- Motor-driven quill motion
- Hydraulic device for controlling the thrust on the workpiece
- Incorporated rotary center
- Hydraulic unclamping of the tailstock.
