The headstock is made of quality cast iron, and to geł the maximum durabilíty the distance between front bearing and intermediate bearíng is designed shorł making the open space between them narrower.
The main spíndle, which ís made of chrome-moly6denum steel, ís hígh-frequency hardened up 10 5hore Hardness 60-80°, is generously sized; 3 (100mm) díameter at the portion of front bearing and 23έ4"(52mm) through the hole.
So called "Three paints support" idea is realizеd in thís dynam cbalanced and stability-rninded three-set-bearíng arrangement for main spíndle. The front and rear bearíngs support radial-load, while the íntermedíate bearing ís desígned for the thrust-load. All bearings are of super-precísíon.
The speed gear traín instalied in the headstock consísts of qualíty gearings made of high grade chrome-moly denum steel, high-frequency hardened and ground, to provide for quiet smooth operation at high speeds.
All shafts other than ma n spíndle are also of nickel-chrome steel, hardened and ground, and are supported by hígh grade precísíon bearíngs. Slídíng gear shafts are formed as spline axles.


AUTOMATIC FORCED LUBRICATION IN HEADSTOCK
Employing trochoid pumpíng - unít the forced lubrícation system uutomatically feed lubricant as soon as the motor starts, to the drívíng mechanísm in the headstock includíng gearíng and all shaft bearínys.
The lubricant tank which is located at the rear of bed, separated from headstodk, has ample capacíty with minimum danger of temperature-ríse duríng mαhіпe operation. The dual fílter arrangement always maíntaíns clean oil supply. Lu6rícant flow can be watched
through the wíndow at the front of headstock.

CUTTING SPEED DIAGRAM
One of the indispensable factors for the ideal use of carbide tools líes іn the determinatíon of cutting speeds. for whích a pгopeг spíndle speed should be choiced according to work diameter.
Number artd range of speeds of thís lathe is so created that the most suítable cutting speed may 6e gíven to any size of workpiece díameter withín the possible range of cuttíng síze, namely, withín the range of swirg over bed.

The above díagram is facílítated in studyíng time factors and is helpful for o6tainíng a flat tíme for cutting 3/8" (10mm) length of stock under a given cuttíng speed-circumferentiaI speed per mínute-cuttíng feed and díameter of work. The oblíque lines main
spindle speed, and the cutting speeds can be divided into three blocks, 280-395 ft/min (85-- 120m/min) 460-650 ft/mіп (140-.-200m/mіп) and 62-85 ft/min (19-.-2бm/m n). Over 26o fitmіn (80m/min) cutting speeds aгe generally suíted for carb de tools.

To turn a vıork of 3%" (80mm) diameter, adequate cuttíng speed ís 330 ft/m n(100m/miп) at 395 PPM., 420 ft/min (128m/min) at 510 RPM., and 585 ft/min (178m/min) at 710 RPM., In case where cutting speed 280-395 ft/mіn(85-.-120m/mіn)., for example, ís selected for workpíece 3%" (80mm) díameter, adequate spindle speed will be 395 RPM., and then íf the choíced rale of feed peг revolutíon is 0.0125/rev (0.314mmjrev), it will toke just 5
seconds to cut 3/8" (100mm) length of the work.

SPINDLE NOSE
The main spíndle nose can accommodate a dírect mount chuck wíth a minímum projection at nose so as To stand the stresses caused by high speed cuttíng and heavy duty
operationThe spindle nose is American Standard A-1-6, L-1 Long Taper Key and D1-6 cam lock drive.

WIDELY DESIGNED BED
The bed is made of hígh tensíle cast íron, hardened and ground.
The bed is well portioned wíth a width of 13 , for center height of For a distance of 7" (Aі-6 Nose) from the face plate, a swing of 19 can be obtained in the natural gap.
To facilítate easy dísposol of chíps, specíally designed staggered ribs are províded.
HARDENED AND GROUND BEDWAYS
The bedways are hígh-frequency hardened and ground up to Shorв
Hardness 70-75°, allowíng the machíne 10 maíntaín maximum accuracy for a long tíme.
RIGID, CAST FULL LENGTH BED SUPPORT
The bed support ís of solíd and massíve cast-iron, ríbbed ínsíde, formíng sturdy unít so as to stand heavy load, torsíonal strees and maintain lasting accuracy, with síx levelłing screws and wíth an integrally cast chíp pan and coolant reservoír.

HYDRAULIC DISK BRAKE
The hydraulíc disk brake is built in the legs. The mechanísm shuts off the electric source prior to the brake being applied, and as the brakíng functíon ís hydraulícally made, safe and quíck stoppíng of machine operation can be made wíth consíderable eaѕе even under high speed rotatíon of spindle.


THREAD-CUTTING AND AUTOMATIC FEEDS
A large range of thread cuttíng can easily and positively be made both in ínch and metric systems merely by lever operation only.
Module and D.P.threads can also be cut by adding a change gear.
Thréad direćtion left or ríght handed, and carríage feed, left or ríght can be chosen by shifting a lever.

OVERLOAD SAFETY DEVICE
The feed gear box contains a safety devíce for overload duríng operatíon. While the automatíc feed mechanísm ís operatíng, if unexpected overload occurs, the feed rod slips and feed stops ínstantly. On the other hand, íf ít occurs duríng thread-cuttíng, a
lead screw safety shear p n snaps and prevents damage to the rest of the mechanísm.

AUTOMATIC FEED LEVER
One clutch lever on the carríage engages either the longítudínal or cross feed. Threod cutting lever ond automatic feed lever bave á safety interlock so that both can not be engaged simultaneously.
AUTOMATIC FEED STOP
Below the apron ís províded a stop dog arrangement whích can be moved To proper pos'ıtion and locked. Whe the carríage moves to
thís point under automatíc feed, the dog províded under apron touches the feed clωтch knock-out and the feed automatícally steps.
The stop dog ís equipped wíth a fine adjustτenl device 10 facilítate occurate posítíoníng.


AUTOMATIC LUBRICATION
TO THE BED SLIDING WAYS
A piston pump, that is synchronized with the motion of the carriage travel, automatically feeds lubricant to the slidíng ways of the carriage, bed and cross slíde. To reguiote the quantíty of lubricant suppled, a speciol devíce ís instılled on the tćp of carriage as shown in the photo.
TAłLSTOCK
The taílstock ís deśaned to withstand rugged operations wíth its rigíd constructíon and super-tíćht clampíng. It is locked by clamp
lever províded at íts rear a-d reínforcement clamp bołt at íts foot.
Tailstock spíndle has a generous diameter of 2-9/16 (65mm) and ís hardened and ground. The tailstock ís of compound type, and its body and base can be set over a .2 (5mm) crosswíse.

COOLANT PUMPING EQUIPMENT
Coolant purrping equipment is located at the rear hínd-leg of the lathe, The equipment consísts of a motor-driven centrífugol pump, totally enclosed, vertical type with m n mum danger or dirt entry and damage duríng operatíon.
Operation switch for this equipment ís located at the front side of the lathe. The coolant reserveír is located in the center of the bed support. Tłie outlet pípíng on the cooIant ís uníversal-joint type wíth a flow control valve and a built-ìn relief valve.
