An evolutíon of speed, power, and accuracy
The unique "Block" approach simplífies to manufacturing needs
Body design that sets the trend
Mechanical rigídity to support hígh-precísíon machíning
Major structural components have been combined ínto a síngle unít. The body desígn features a low center of gravíty wíth a wíde load bearíng area. Thís provides a
machíne base wíth excellent antí-víbration control.
Fínite Element Method (FEM) has been used to strengthen area saround the slideways, resulting in an optímal reínforcíng ri6 structure. Mechanical rigidity has been íncreased by more than 30% when compared to the conventíonal desígn.

One of the major features ín the design of the new SL
Seríes ís a uníque manufacturing concept that employs modular key components. We refer to this as the "Block" approach. Key elements such as the headstock, turret,
and tailstock are made as interchangeable modules. This permits selection of the specifications as required and making ít possíble to manufacture and assemble
machines quícker.
We have standardízed components wherever possíb1e, down to the śmallest ítem. The benefits to a customer is a moгe cost effectíve product that can be delivered as scheduled.

To dríve the spindle, a powerful direct dríve spíndle (DDS) motor ís used.* This motor, with high torque over a wíde range, is buílt ínto the headstock. It provídes a drive wíth tremendous speed and exceptíonal effícíency that absorbs vibration and improves both surface finish and roundness.
* SL-300: uses belt drive

Combatíng thermal distortion
In order to maíntaín accuracy over long períods of continuous machiníng,
it is critical to counteract a number of thermal expansíon.
The point of machiníng ís a major source of heat. The slideway covers shíeld the ínside of the machíne from chíps and cutting tluíds wíth hígh temperatures.
The coolant tank has been physically removed from the main unít to help mínimíze the thermal ímpact of the chíps and coolant. Coolant output volume has been doubled and the coolant tank capacity is 60% greater.
To contend with the ríse ín spíndle temperatures, we have enclosed the outer círcumference of the spíndle unít ín an oil jacket. Oil is recirculated through thís jacket to stabílíze the spíndle unít and headstock. A fan cooleг* ís used to minimize variations in the temperature
of the main machíne body. In additíon, a coolíng fin has been mounted around the headstock to help control heat transmíssíon to the maín bed castíng.
*SL-250 and SL-300 use an oil cooler.

ndexíng at 0.2 sec. station-to-statíon
The feed system permíts speeds that set the standard
The turret uses streamlíned non-líft construction. Clamping and unclampíng of the
turret ís performed duríng axís retractíon or approach.
Thís makes ít possíble to achíeve tool índexíng times as quíck as 0.2 seconds (statíon-to-statíon).
A high-speed servo motor, coupled wíth a Morí Seíki ballscrew, is used for the
feed system. This results in speeds that set the standard: 18 m/mín (708.7 іpm)* for
the X-axis, 24 m/mіп (944.9 іpm) for the Z-axís.
*SL-300: 15 m/mіп (590.6 ipm) for the X-axis.

Príoríty of the Slídíng Guideway ín the
High-Speed Feed System
The sliding guideway is made up of a lubricating oil film that is made up of a wedge-shaped oil film and a contracted film.
The wedge operation comes into greater play as the speed increases, and works to pro[ong the life of the slideway surface under a fixed load. Under a fluctuating load, a throttle
buffer is generated, which provides much greater damping
power than ball guides against shock loads, thus playing a critical role in the maintenance of the slideway surface's rigidity and precision.

Hígherturníng functíonalíty and system expandabílity
A fully equipped versatile machíne líneup
Díverse machining needs concentrated ín one place
The SL Series features a full lineup of models ranging from standard turníng to multi-process machiníng.
Beginning wíth the turning center specifícatíons, rotary tools can be mounted at all tool stations. A secondary process, such as milling, can follow turning immedíately without the need to move the workpiece to another machine. Functions such as hígh-speed rigid tapping and míracle tapping are included in the standard specificatíons. On MC models, the DDS motor servo control enables contouring at accuracies of up to 0.001 °.
In order to save operatíons, a sub-spíndle can been added for secondary machining. When the fírst operation ís completed in the prímary spindle, rotatíon is synchronized and the workpiece is transferred to the sub-spindle for secondary machíning. Millíng operatíons (SMC type) are possible іп both processes *
A turning center wŕth a Y-axis has also been added ku the líneup to respond to the need for sophístícated procc,;cs.
*lndexing only for the headstock 2 spindle.
Y-axis control promotes process íntegratíon
The Y-axis control (in the center height direction) turning center is added to conventional X-axis and Z-axis control, making it possible to accomplish milling jobs that are impossible on conventional turning centers. The Y-axis control feature allows greater process integration on a single machine while sustaining a higher level of accuracy.
Automated manufacturíng system wíth our
built-ín gantry loader
It's easy to enhance your production system by addíng
automated loadíng devices for variouš types of workpíeces. Provisions were made at the design level to add a gantry loader if desíred. The system archítecture is such that minímum floorspace is requíred. Eíther síngle or multíple machínes may be attached to the gantry loader.
Workstocker configuratíons and grípper shapes can be selected to fit índívidual specifícatíons. A bar feeder can also be added to automate bar stock machining.
Relíable, easy operatíon and real performance
Compact form
Desígn emphasís on small details for improved operatíon
The spíndle cooling unit, hydraulíc unit, and electrical
cabínet have all been íncorporated ínto the maín
machíne unit ín order to save space. The machine footprint ís smaller than on prevíous modeis. The overall machíne has been refined for a pleasing appearance.
Another of the small detaíls to ímprove machine operation is ín the light weight, movable operation panel.

Added features enhance machíne safety
In additíon to a greater level of sophistícation and ímproved performance, other ímportant íssues have been the ease of use and preservatíon of safety.
The SL Seríes addressesthese issues, adding sophístícated safety features to
both the mechanical and electrical systems. From door
ínterlock devíces to impact resístant víewíng windows, every precautíon has been taken to eliminate potentíal dangers from the standard machíne specífícatíons.

Perípheral devíces to íncrease productívíty

Standard equípment includes an ín-machíne tool presetter to shorten and streamline setup operations. Parts' catchers handle the finíshed workpiece for improved
process tlow.*
An external chip conveyor (ríght dísposal or rear dísposal), automatic measuríng system, air blow system and many other optíonal peripheral devíces are also available.
*S and SMC types feature parts catchers as standard.
