Before the desígn of the SV-50 was set,
Mori Seíki utilízed the FEM Finite Element Method of analyzing machine
components to determine the optímum confíguration. Thís optimum configuratíon provides maximum stabílíty and support for hígh speed operatíon.
The bed with its uníquely ribbed constructíon and the saddle wíth íts íncreased thíckness make the body extraordínarily rugged and tough for heavy cuts. The most advanced technology and sophístícated desígn prevent dístortion and ensure consístently exceptíonal accuracy over many years. The new design technique has also successfully reduced the machíne weíght, makíng hígh accuracy operatíon possíble at hígh speed.

Overall rigidíty has íncreased due to innovative bed ríbbíng and other advanced desígn consíderatíons.

The SV-50 has been desígned with a compact body to satísfy space-savíng
requírements. This desígn concept gíves the SV-50 top class machíníng capacíty among machíníng centers of comparable síze; axis travels of the X-/Y-/Z-axís are 800 mm (31.5 іn.)* / 510 mm (20.1 іn.)/510 mm (20.1 in.) wíth a wíde table
working area of 1,100 mm x 600 mm (43.3 in. x 23.6 јп.)**.

Super-heavy load type ball guídes are adopted for a11 three axes, and powerful
servo motors drive these axes (2.1 kW (2.8 HP)* for X- and Y-axís, and 4.4 kW
(5.9 HP) for Z-axis). The new axís drive system ensures rapid traverse as fast as
32 m/mіn (1,259.8 іpm), which supports highly effícíent operatíon by drastícally
reducíng idle time.

The spíndle is driven by an efficíent direct drive spindle (DDS) motor. Wíth a No. 40 taper and a bearíng I.D. of 85 mm (3.3 in.), the spíndle has a maximum
speed of 10,000 mіп-' (standard) or 20,000 min-' (optíon). Thanks to the
motor wíndíng switch selectíon method, conflictíng motor performance requirements — hígh speed and hígh torque — can be achíeved wíthout compromíse, allowíng cuttíng of any kínd of material, from aluminum to staínless steel, with full power throughout the range from
hígh-speed machíning to heavy-duty cutting.
The spindle has excellent start-up and stop performance. It takes only 1.5
seconds for the spindle to reach the maximum speed from the stopped state (standard specífícatíon). Thís quíck response feature minimizes id1e tíme and makes a
major contríbutíon to achíevíng a high production rate.

The heart of any machíne tool is the spindle ítself. Mori Seíkí's spíndle desígn
utílízes a new lubrication system termed "Micro Fog Lubrícation". Thís lubrícatíon system actually provídes a 2μm diameter sphere of oil dírected to the ball
race at high velocíty to províde the best lubrication possíble.
This uníque lubricatíon system wil1 operate for approxímately 1,000 hours in
one tíme of oi1 supply [0.6 L(0.16 gal.)].
This ís envíronmentally safe and reduces costs.
A large sized oil cooler is províded as standard to minímize thermal displacement in hígh speed spíndle operatíon.

Morí Seíki's desígn of the cam driven Automatíc Tool Changer (ATC) is both
fast and relíable. Tool-to-tool exchange ís swíftly completed in only 1.0 seconds*.
Complex operations necessitate increased tool storage capacíty. To meet
this need, the SV-50 ís equipped with a 20-tool magazíne as a standard feature. More capacíty is offered with the optional 30- and 40-tool magazínes.

Oп the X- and Y-axis slideways, a rídged protectíve cover ís installed to allow
smooth chip flow. A full cover that prevents splashíng and scattering of
coolant and chips is, of course, installed as the standard cover to províde a safe
and clean workíng environment.
The desígn engíneers also concentrated on ímproving ease of operation.
Some examples: the operation panel can be pulled out to any required angle, and
the front door ís a 2-step slíde type to give a wide open area at the table front*.

The functíons of the SV-50 caп be further upgraded by ínstalling a variety of
perípheral equipment to improve productívíty and accuracy. By combíning it with 2-statíon APC, for example, the machíne can easíly be upgraded.

A variety of types of machíníng such as miliing, drílling, and tapping can be performed ín a range coveríng everything from heavy duty cuttíng to high-speed
operation at 10,000 min-'. The machíne performs consistently hígh-power operation wíth high efficíency and high accuгacy.
