Morí Seiki's research and development group have a simple mission. Develop
new hígh-qualíty products in the shortest possible time, without turning its back on
our traditional values of precísíon and rígídity.
An example of technology is our utilization of a 3-dímensíonal CAD system, that
allows our specialists in design, analysis, and manufactuńng to exchange infomıation.
They can work with the data to develop optimal designs to fabrication in greatly
reduced time compared to conventional methodology. We have even moved our
development offices to our production floor, to create an environment where engineers
can compare 3-D screen images to actual products.
We have thrown ourselves into the development of new factory automation type machines and have developed a líneup of products second to none. Mori Seíkí ís dríven by thís same technology in developing our own "in-house" manufacturíng of crítícal parts such as ball screws, curvíc couplíngs, etc. A síde benefít here is the development of well-trained engíneers.

Nara No.1 plant functíons as the production center for sma11 CNC lathes and small
machining centers.
An in-plant delivery system utilizes an automated storage and
retrieval complex with 8,888 shelves, and 16 AGVs. The piant
ítself ís an excellent exampie of the latest in large-scale automation. Production
and material handling systems are controlled by computers to maximize material handling and quality control.

Morí Seíkí's Nara No. 2 plant functions as a production center for small and mediumsized components. This plant also has an assembly area for prototypes, and setup of customers turnkeys or specíal equípment. The ímportance of thís facility
enables us to respond in a timely and flexible manner.

Iga No. 1 Plant specíalízes ín machíning while Plant No. 2 is dedicated to machine assembly. Together, the two facilities occupy some 128,OOOm2 (1,380,OOOft2) of floor space and the two plants are línked effícíently by an automated transport line. 400 machine
tools and a wide variety of robots are serviced by a huge automated storage
and retńeval system that uses some 50 AGVs moving over 9,600m(10,500 yards) of track. We have a highiy sophisticated production control system that responds to the fluctuations in models and productíon volumes that characteńze this age. The result is an automated plant ranking with the best anywhere in the world.
Our development department has embraced the concept of concurrent engineering and has sígnífícantly enhanced development response, precision, and delivery times.
We have created an ideal productíon envíronment ín whích
software and hardware is fully and completely integrated. With the expansíon of operatíons and equipment, we have created a pleasant working atmosphere. Iga No.2 was designed to
be a very clean environment. It is a total departure from the image one has of a
typical factory, yet we are able to maintain product quality, increase morale, and improve communication.
We are now proceeding rapidly to build a third plant in Iga. This new facility will
be dedicated to the manufactuńng and sub-assembly of critical parts that are
ultra-precision, to fulfill this need for new products ín the coming century

Here we have a perfect system for a machining facility that must deal with a
large variety of products produced in small lot quantítíes. A uníque automated líne ís
centered on an índependent dispersal type
FMC to allow long hours of unmanned operation. The facility is maintaíned at a
constant temperature so operations such as grinding and assembly can be controlled.
Precision inspection is facilitated by the use of a laser measuring system. The plant is also equípped with a production jig borer, a super accurate three dimensíonal
coordinate measuring machine, roundness testers, and other equipment requíred for a
comprehensive ínspectíon system.

Thís assembly plant ís separated physícally from the machíníng facílíty. Here we
have installed a super precision air filtration and dust prevention system to
maintain the highest possible standards in the assembly and adjustment of our
machíne tools. The entíre facílìty ís held at a constant temperature and uses its
own independent air filtration system.
Temperature deviations and humidity have been eliminated. We have clean
rooms for precision assembly and clean booths within this room where the aír is
purífíed to exceed a 10,000 1eve1 of puríty.
There is a multi-purpose area that can be used to test special systems and turnkeys
to customer specífícatíons. A showroom
is used to display and demonstrate our latest machines and cuttìng technology.
Thís ís not only a manufacturíng facílíty, ít ís a communication vehicle for the exchange
of ideas between Mori Seiki and our customers.

The functíon of our Technical lnformatíon
Department is to manage the distribution of pertínent ínformatíon to the support
personnel at all Morí Seíkí iocatíons.
Technícal lnformatíon ís also ínvolved ín communícatíons actívítíes directed to our
customers, such as accurate manuals or any documentation. The collection and dissemination of this valued information provide us wíth another avenue of communicatíon
between ourselves and our customers.

It has been twenty years since Mori Seiki became Japan's leadíng manufacturer
of NC lathes. In order to support theír customers in Japan, Mori Seíkí has
established technícal centers ín 29 locations that enables us to respond
quickly to customer needs. The Domestic
Technícal Center ís the base for ail servíce, educational, sales activities. It works hard
to establish an all-encompassing system that allows us to consult with our customers
and respond immediately to their needs.

Morí Seíkí ís an ínternationally recognized machine tool builder having shipped over
60,000 machines throughout the world. In order to functíon better ín the all- ímportant after sale market, we have established large-scale parts and service
centers in three major locations. These locatíons are: Dallas, Texas, USA; Stuttgart,
Germany, Europe; and Singapore in Asia.
Consequently, a crítícal part íf not ín stock locally, can be shípped overníght from any location to take advantage of the time difference to service a particular
customer. We have a staff of 200 ín 26 locations throughout the world. Their primary function is to support customers and distributors in an effective and timely
manner. In order to assist our distributors and help customers, we offer technícal
semínars, recommend equípment and automation, and provide communications to our customers.
