Quality that is relied upon by customers worldwide
Okuma has provided machine tools at the forefront of a wide variety of industrial fields
over our long history. During this time, we have faced a variety of issues in the field,
together with our customers, developed a wider range of models and products, and
grown into a comprehensive manufacturer of machine tools used at production sites
throughout the world.
As a trusted brand, we will work to further refine the quality of our products and
servìces, backed by our advanced technologies, in order to continue to earn the
support of our customers

With the push of a single switch, machine tools automatically change tools, move cutting tool holders and tables, and carry out processing of curves, complex shapes, holes and grooves
with micron precision and optimal set-up. This is the world of Youг Single Source for Machine & Control which fuses NC
devices and machines.
This is a common scenario at present, but half a century ago it was only a dream. Although Okuma was a machine tool
manufacturer, we also boldly worked towards the development of NC devices. In addition, we also carried out in-house development of motors, servo drive units, position
detectors and other core components that are essential for precision control.

Our conviction in developing machinery that is both advanced but still easy to use, and maintaining total responsibility for all products is what has driven these pursuits.
This tradition of striving to be Your Single Source for Machine & Control is reflected in our unique product development and intelligent technologies, which directly contríbute to improving customer productivity, and has allowed us to provide speedy
service in both the machinery and NC device fields.
Okuma's Intelligent Technologies which directly contribute to improving
customer productivity
OPEN PossІвІιІτІεs
Processing sites face a variety of issues which hinder precision and productivity. Machine thermal deformation and axís deviation in multíaxís processíng as a result of temperature changes strongly affect machíning precísíon.
Concerns regardíng interference or collísions with machine slídíng parts, countermeasures for chatter vibration duríng processing and other issues also greatly affected processíng efficíency.
Thermal deformatíon and changes over time have come to be understood as a part of "machine characteristics" and verification of collision avoidance and determining optimal processing conditíons as parts of "worker skill"
and "processing knowhow" and have come to be regarded as unavoidable phenomena.
However, some of these fall wíthín the scope of the technologies that should be delivered to customers by a machine tool manufacturer, and we believe that resolving these íssues ís the true míssion of a machine tools manufacturer, so Okuma uses its unique intelligent technologíes to realize ímproved productivíty for customers as Your single Source for Machine & Control.

Realízation of hígh precísíon through Intellígent Technologíes
Realízatíon of hígh precísíon ín standard plant envíronments
Thermo-Fríendly Concept
Changes in the ambient temperature around machines and heat generated during
processing have a serious effect on processing precision. In response, rather than trying to
apply cooling forcefully, we instead focused on a structural design which could adapt to
these temperature changes and control thermal deformation. If the machine dimensions
are verified at startup, it greatly reduces the need for compensation thereafter.

Tuníng to elímínate geometríc error, able to be carríed out quíckly and easíly by anyone
5-axís Auto Tuníng System
In 5-axis machines which process a large number of surfaces, it is necessary to compensate for a variety geometric errors such as core deviation of the axes of
rotation. There were only 4 types of compensation which could be carried out by hand
up until now, and they required a significant investment of time. However, with 5-axis
auto tuning, 11 types of ineasurement and automatic compensation can be carried out
in just 10 minutes.

lmprovement of ease of use through Inte11ígent Technologíes
Allows operators to focus on processíng
Collísíon Avoídance System
There is aп increased risk of collisions inside the machine in multi-surface machining
where there are a variety of complex movements. For this reason we developed a
collision avoidance function utilizing advanced control technologies. This function
stops the machine operation immediately before a collision, in both automatic and
manual operation. This allows anyone to focus on machining without worry, and greatly
reduces the time required for setup and processing of initial products on a 1ine.
Searches for optimal machining condítíons to realíze híghly efficíent machining
Machíning Naví
Rotation speed can't be increased due to worries about occurrence of chatter.
Machìning Navi solves this worry. It finds the optimal machining conditions by utilizing
superior detection and control functìons. This contributes not only to surface
refinement, but also reduction of processing time, improvement of productivity, longer
usable life for tools and consolidation of work processes.

The ability to see ahead and accumulated technologiesResearch and development aimed at realizing tabletop theory on actual machines
The release of a single new product can rapidly íncrease customer processing quality and productivity and change the entire manufacturing scene.
We work to realize the needs of customers for whom "if only we could..." is a common thought through accumulation of basíc research ín a variety of specialized fields and development ability that anticipates technology trends

Breakíng away from accepted practíces wíth groundbreakíng basíc research
The spirit of challenge of researchers who breakaway from accepted practices is the key to the creation of
innovatíve technologies. "Is there no method of fundamentally resolving issues long faced at machine shops?" We face difficult themes such as heat, vibratíon
and chatter, head-on and develop logic while analyzing
vast amounts of data.
Intelligent technologies are born from the repeated implementation of these types of basic research.
Exceedíng expectations with development and design workíng ín uníson
The marketing strength to search out and discover a customer's hidden needs is important in order to make customers feel satisfied that we have delivered the exact
types of machines they wanted.
At Okuma, information gained through sales and service actívities is shared with our development department and analyzed in order to carry out technological development
that anticipates coming trends. In addition, when next generation models are conceived, it is implemented as a project which covers everythíng from product development,
design, control, machine structure, assembly, and production technologies to sales and services in order to create products which exceed all expectations.
