HYDRAULIC ADJUSTMENT OF LOWER ROLLS.
ROLLS ARE DRIVEN REGARDLESS OF POSITION.
RAPID SPIRAL BENDING.
SELF ADJUSTING GUIDE ROLLS. CONSTRUCTION
The machine housings are constructed of heavy steel plate weldments. Gears and shafts are journalled in ball bearings and run in oil. Roller shafts are journalled in heavy SKF roller bearings, making the machine very easy running. The machine is available in ten sizes, most available in horizontal or vertical models. In addition, several sizes aгe available in combined horizontal vertical models so that the machine can easily be turned 90 and function in the horizontal or vertical position depending on the type of work to be done and the local shop conditions. On the horizontal machines, roll shafts are in the horizontal plane and work is in the vertical position on the vertical machines, roll shafts are in the vertical plane and work is in the horizontal position.
DRIVE
The driving and adjusting principles of the ROUNDO machines are patented. The bending rolls of the smaller size machines are driven by an electric motor, built together with the gear box. The bending rolls on the largersize machines are driven bya hydraulic motor, providing infinitely variable speeds for both rolling and adjustment. The lower rolls are driven irrespective of adjustment position. All three rolls on the machine are always driven. As all three rolls are driven, there are no slipping tendencies between the rolls and the work, as may occur in machines with only one or two rolls driven. A slep clutch on the top roll compensates for the difference in surface speeds of the inner and outer diameters of the section being rolled.
MOTOR, BRAKE, CONTROLS
Electric motors on all machines are TEFC. The smallest machines, Models R2 and R3, are equipped with magnetic brake for the drive. All other sizes are equipped with hydraulic motor for driving the bending rolls, an important development, by means of which the rotating and adjustment speeds can be varied from creep to maximum speed. The hydraulic motor has a built in brake, which stops the rolls precisely and no special motor brake or electromagnetic clutch is required. A hydraulic valve is used for reversing, resulting in a very smooth switching. The hydraulic motor is protected against overloading. Additional advantages of the hydraulic motor are where the electric current is weak, in eliminating disc clutches, and that electrical disturbances, which can occur at repeated forward and reverse switchings, are eliminated, especially on the larger machines.
BENDING ROLLS
Bending rolls for angle iron with the leg out or leg in, flat iron on the flat and on edge, and T iron leg out and leg in are delivered with the machines as standard equipment and ordinarily require in spacers. The rolls are hardened and are held to the machine shaft by means of a single key. The use of a single key simplifies construction of the rolls, there by considerably reducing machinin costs. The lower rolls are individuaiIy adjustable against the to
roll by hydrauIiq power and are driven regardless of their adjustmen position. On the Models R2 and R3, the hydraulic power for roll adjustment is supplied by a motor driven hydraulic pump and actuated on the R2 by lever controls and on the R3 by push buttons. On all other models, adjustment of the rolls is by hydraulic power from the main hydraulic system and is actuated by push buttons. Both rolling speeds and roll adjusting speeds are infinitely variable and are controlled by a lever or handle conveniently mounted on the machine. The hydraulic system transmits the power directly the rolls, without the loss which occurs in mechanical adjustment. By means of screw and worm gears. The system is protected against overloading and no return valves eliminate the risk that the lower rolls change position during the bending operation. Scales indicat the adjustment position of the rolls and are standard equipment
