Schiess Froriep RS External and internal gear cutting on large drive gears

Technical specifications for gear cutting on large drive gears are provided by SCHIESS Froriep AG. The machine developed for producing helical teeth on internal ring gears, as used in large planetary transmissions, is the largest gear generating machine currently available. It employs the continuous mesh cutter principle and is designed to meet high demands in terms of performance and precision. The machine has been installed in a fully temperature controlled production shop constructed on ultra modern lines for a customer in the gear manufacturing industry. The machine can perform gear shaping and shaving operations and has a maximum for internal and external teeth, a maximum pitch module of 20, and a maximum tooth helix of 35. Other technical data includes a maximum tooth width of 420 mm, a maximum table carrying capacity of 25, a table diameter of 2000 mm, cutting speeds of 6 24 m min, stroking rates of 8 75 spm, and total consumption of approximately 75 kW. The machine is thermally stabilized through temperature regulation of hydraulic, lubricating, and cutting oil. Its cooling capacity is 18500 kcal. The cutting speed is kept constant over the entire width of cut, and all feed rates are infinitely variable over their entire range. A double flank roll testing instrument attached to the machine allows for the inspection of the quality of the teeth produced.
