Schiess FB Horizontal milling and boring centers are equipped with interchangeable attachment heads and temperature-controlled high spindle speeds. This allows for flexibility in application and machining accuracy. By combining the HBM with a vertical turning machine or traversing gantry milling machine, along with worktables, clamping and indexing systems, thermal insulation, cooling systems, and headstock guidance on wrap-around ways, sustained accuracy is achieved. The steel structure provides torsional and deflectional rigidity, which ensures stock removing capacity. Efficiency is improved through an appropriate degree of automation, a 4x90 indexing system for attachment heads, and comprehensive diagnostic systems. The ergonomical design includes an operator's platform with independent movement in two axes and an operator's control panel within easy reach and viewing distance.

These machines have high flexibility and versatile application due to a multitude of extension modules with appropriate interfaces for stand-alone tables and multi-machining units. They also have automatic indexing systems, worktables for performing positioning operations, direct measuring systems, clamping and aligning elements, rotary milling operations, and special table platens. Coolant discharge turning operations are performed on VBM-tables. The sum of these features and the prices of the individual assemblies result in a favorable price/performance ratio.

Rotating and traversing worktables, TD, TDV, and heavy-duty worktables, TK, TKV, have basic dimensions for indexing and milling operations. The maximum load on the table ranges from 45 to 250 tons, with a minimum clamping area of 2250/2250 mm and a maximum clamping area of 8000 x 8000 mm. T-slots have spacing/size ranging from 200/36 to 500/54 mm, and the maximum rim diameter of table support ranges from 2400 to 6600 mm. The table travel ranges from 1500 to 6000 mm, with a fixing torque rotary of 40-550 kN m and a feed power linear of 40-140 kN. Feed range linear is 4000 mm/min and rotary is 150-480/min. Jog rates linear are 3/30/600/6000 mm/min and rotary is 3/30/600/4800. Special sizes are available to meet specific requirements.
