Schiess Vertimaster turning maschine

The Schiess VERTIMASTER series of machines, which are continuously developed and expanded to cope with the changing requirements of the market. The machines are designed to solve complex machining problems at all levels of automation, with flexibility in technologies. The hardware and software features in the modular design system can be adapted to any machining task, with cross rail head configurations and magazines for up to 240 tools. The machines are also expandable, from a 2-axis vertical turning machine to a 6-axis machining center. Examples of the VERTIMASTER machines include the VERTIMASTER 25 DS for compressor discs and the VERTIMASTER 16 DS for aircraft engine components. The machines are built on the sub-assembly principle, and quality is assured by comprehensive tests. The machines have a high level of functional reliability and precision, with quality assurance covering all manufacturing areas.

Light cut, heavy cut with NC and without NC, B1-VB-2 NC, B1-VF-2 NC-18, 5CH1E55, and FRORIEP are machines for turning, boring, milling, and grinding. These machines use WSD-B-type toolholders and WSD-A toolholders with ISO 50 taper shank heads that have differing spindle speeds and torques. These toolholders have a wide range of boring and milling attachments. Boring and milling attachment heads have an automatic head change feature from an independent rotating ISO 50 tool's six-station magazine or from a combined attachment head and ISO 50 disc-type magazine.

To ensure an uninterrupted machining process, a fully automatic tool changer is necessary. Depending on the application, two systems are available: a changer with a 12-station magazine disc for turning toolholders and a tool changer with a 20-station magazine disc for tools with ISO 50 DIN 2079 taper shanks, where boring and milling heads can also be stored.

The VERTIMASTER modular system provides versatile cutting technologies requiring a larger number of tools and the application of boring and milling heads. The system includes attachment head changers with a magazine disc capable of taking up to six attachment heads. The arena-type tool magazine can accommodate 60 to 120 ISO 50 tools, and the drum-type magazines can hold 60 to 240 tools. A twin-arm manipulator is used for tool changing.

Workpiece pallet systems drastically increase productivity. The pallet system for flexible manufacturing cells includes a pallet clamping station with hydraulic pallet centering, clamping, and unclamping on the machine. The component setup station has an anti-friction bearing system with the same accuracy as the basic machine. The pallet storage station has a feed worm for linear pallet transfer. The pallet change can be automated or initiated from the control station.

To cater to the degree of automation and technology employed, the machines have different options for chip guards, chip disposal, and coolant attachment.
