CNC Portal Milling Machine FZ25

The combination of a robust design with very low moved masses and a structurally lightweight portal, Z-slide, and milling head enables a dynamic performance that is unique in its class. This design results in a very fast rate of machining and accuracy, meaning there is little or no need for manual reworking of the already excellent surface finish. Despite accepting the largest workpieces ever catered for, the FZ25 maintains its high performance.

Modularity and Measuring Systems

The FZ25 is very adaptable with regard to work ranges, control systems, as well as accessories and equipment, and can be customized to suit individual needs. The three linear axes X, Y, and Z are equipped with direct longitudinal measuring systems made by Heidenhain. The systems are protected against dirt by a compressed air barrier. The rotary axes A and C are equipped with high-resolution angular measuring systems.

Technical Description

The FZ25 is designed as a high-dynamics simultaneous 5-axis machine. The portal is driven on both sides. The linear axes are moved as standard on high-precision, pre-loaded linear guides. State-of-the-art rack-and-pinion drives are used for the X- and Y-axes and ground ball screw spindle for the Z-axis. The construction results in low and constant moved masses for consistent dynamic performance and optimum surface finish.

Control Systems

Different control systems can be used with the FZ25. State-of-the-art control systems offer functions such as look-ahead, stick-slip limitation, spline interpolation, as well as 5-axis machining capability. A nearly unlimited variety of options, such as touch probe, tool inspection, measuring software, etc., is available. Production environment, application, and operator convenience are important criteria for the choice of the most beneficial control system. We offer the possibility to choose from different control system brands.

Contamination Protection

The guides, drives, and measuring systems are protected against dirt by micro-dust bellows covers. Dust extraction equipment and other systems are also available.

Construction

The FZ25 is a portal milling machine with fixed side walls and an overhead portal moving in the X-direction. This results in low and constant moved masses for consistent dynamic performance and optimum surface finish. Moreover, the construction is structurally very rigid due to its trapezoidal cross-section, ensuring high dynamics and accuracy.

the foundatíon, so that the workpiece can be machíned in one
clamping posítion. Machíníng is not affected by the weíght of

FZ 25 Milling Head

The VH 1 milling head especially developed for lightweíght
materìals ís the most compact milling head in the Zimmermann range and offers several advanteges. Thus, oп the one hand, a very fast dynamíc performance and consequently hígh chíp removal rate can be achieved
during HSC míllíng; on the other hand, thanks to íts lightweíght construction, the portal of the milling machíne ís less susceptible by torsíon and bendíng
forces. 
This results in a hígh qualíty surface finish.
The VH 1 milling head is ideally suited to the dímensions of the
FZ25 and thus permíts the layout of large work ranges in all axes.
To take full advantage of these features the VH 1 has Ьeeп
desígned as a true mínímalist. The straíghtforward desígn goes without all unnecessary ballast, concentratíng on the factors affectíng performance and accuracy. The harmoníc drive system conforms exactly to this phílosophy. It ís dynamíc and lightweight wíth a gentle,
