For transit, the ECKOLD PICCOLO is swiveled down about
1800 into its frame by the removal of the six Allen screws,
three on each side at the swivel bearing, together with the
handwheel and the front grease nipple.

At the top and bottom of the main frame, provision is made
to accommodate the eye bolts necessary when the machine is
to be lifted into the operating position or swiveled down
for transportation. In the latter position, the machine is
secured by two Allen screws only, the balance being packed
away in the toolbox.

To bring the machine to the operating position, it is necessary to remove the two Allen locking screws, insert the eye bolt, attach the crane or lifting tackle, and raise clear of the stand. When in the operating position most suitable to the workpiece and operator, it should be locked by the use of the remaining four Allen screws and washers. The handwheel and the front grease nipple are then fitted into position.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE BEFORE USING THE MACHINE:

a. It is important to ensure that all packing, dust, anti-rust grease, and spray have been completely removed. The handwheel-operated adjustable ram in the machine head must be extended to its bottom position to enable all anti-rust film to be removed. The ram should be given a coating of grease before it is returned to the top position.

b. The bearing points 4 and 5 (see lubrication chart) have been packed with anti-friction bearing grease by manufacturers before dispatch and should be cleaned and refilled after 8,000 to 10,000 work-hours.

c. All other greasing points should be lubricated according to the attached lubrication chart before starting the machine. Lubricating points are painted red on the machine.

To prevent premature bearing wear, lubrication instructions must be strictly adhered to. See Page 9 for the Lubrication Chart.

CONNECTING THE MACHINE:

The ECKOLD PICCOLO is delivered with a four-pole plug, which can be connected to a four-core rubber cable (1.5). Care should be taken that the motor is running in the right direction, as indicated by the arrow on the motor end shield.

When the machine is to be plugged into a number of power points around the shop, care should be taken to ensure that these sockets are polarized so that the motor direction is constant.

SETTING UP OF THE MACHINE:

To avoid time loss in the transportation of work from machine to the assembly site, the ECKOLD PICCOLO is mobile, and due to its light weight, it can be easily transported from one place to another.

IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO ANCHOR THE MACHINE WHEN WORKING.

ADJUSTMENT OF VEE-BELTS 1/2 x 5/16 x 56
The following procedure should be adopted when this operation becomes necessary due to stretch and wear:

Remove all power connections.Remove the belt guard by means of the three screws on the inside.A screwdriver should be inserted in the relevant hole in the guard, and the screw turned two or three times only. The guard can then be withdrawn to the rear.

The motor is fitted to an eccentric type of locking flange, which in turn is mounted on the platform by means of a retaining plate. To adjust the belts, it is necessary to loosen the locking screws in the plate, turn the motor in the mounting ring until the necessary tension is obtained, and then retighten the locking screws.

WORKING INSTRUCTIONS FOR ECKOLD-KRAFTFORMER PICCOLO

Inserting Tools into the Machine:

The correct method of fitting tools into the machine is shown in the diagram on Page 8.

Tools should be inserted so that the trademarks are to the front and vertically aligned.The quick-change attachment permits tool changes to be made in a matter of seconds, which is extremely important when the component embodies a variety of forms.

To remove a tool, it is only necessary to grasp it and, with a slight jerk, remove it from its seating.

When inserting tools, care should be taken to ensure that the guide pin slides correctly into the base.

NOTE: Interchanging of forming tools should under no circumstances be done while the machine is running; otherwise, damage to the machine and tools will result.

Setting Forming Tools in the Operating Position:
Adjust the upper ram by turning the handwheel in an anti-clockwise direction until the pointer shows 10 mm on the scale.
 Switch the machine on by pressing the button mounted on the right-hand side of the frame.
 Move the component into the working position between the tools.
Further adjust the handwheel until the required forming pressure is obtained.
 To interrupt the forming process, raise the ram by means of the handwheel.

Changing the Vee-Belts
Always replace both vee-belts if, after long usage, one of them needs replacing, as used and unused belts never run together satisfactorily due to differences in length and expansion. Change the vee-belts as follows:

Pull out the mains plug, remove the belt guards, and after slackening off the motor mounting, remove the vee-belts from the pulley.

Unscrew the centrally located hexagon screw on the left-hand bearing flange when viewing the machine from the rear.

Unscrew the four Allen screws on the right-hand bearing flange (not to be confused with the three on the frame flange ring) and withdraw the bearing flange up to the stop by screwing two M6 x 50 screws into the two tapped holes.

Dismantle the left-hand bearing flange in the same way. This leaves enough room between the inner wall of the housing and the pulley to push the vee-belts through.

Fit the new vee-belts into the pulley grooves and reassemble the left-hand bearing flange. The right-hand bearing flange is brought back into its initial position by screwing the hexagon screw back into its center and simultaneously tightening the four Allen screws alternately.

Fit and tension the vee-belts on the motor pulley. Tighten up the motor holding screws.

Fit the guard, reconnect the mains plug, and the machine is ready for service again.

Removing the Motor Carrier
Before dismantling the motor carrier, it is essential to:

Remove the vee-belts from the motor pulley.

Disconnect the connections marked 1, 3, and 95 on the air contactor and the overload relay terminals leading to the switches in the head of the machine.

Hold the motor bracket securely while loosening the four M8 screws at the top and bottom to prevent it from falling.

INSERTING TOOLS
Insert the tool in the direction of the arrow.

Guide pin should engage in the guide groove.

Balls should fit into the respective sockets.
