5. Lock the hood again (see under 12).
Machine with stepless drive, type 15 ST:
Refer to the illustration on page 12.
1. The speed can be continuously varied by means of a variable speed pulley drive (the speed ratio being 1:8).
2. The speed is set by means of a hand lever (5) (this setting should only be done when the motor is running).
3. The speed can be read on the revolution counter.
14. Setting of the drilling depth:
Refer to the illustration on pages 5, 6, 7, 12, and 13.
1. On the front of the machine, a digital indication is provided with a zero position button.
2. Use a star handle (6) to set the spindle into the desired drilling depth.
3. Setting of the drilling depth by means of a digital indication:
3.1 Turn the drilling depth knob (7) to the left (in + direction).
3.2 The stop (24) moves downwards.
3.3 Lower the drill down to the workpiece and keep the handle.
3.4 Push the zero position button of the digital indication.
3.5 The drilling depth can now be read on the digital indication.
4. Setting of the drilling depth by means of a digital indication and a stop:
4.1 Follow steps 3.1 to 3.4.
4.2 Turn the drilling depth knob (7) to the right (in - direction) until you feel resistance.
4.3 Push the zero position button.
4.4 Correct the drilling depth (7) (in + direction), e.g., 25 mm drilling depth. Attention: digital indication counts backwards (e.g., from 00.0 to 75.0).
4.5 Again, push the zero position button.
4.6 When the drilling depth is reached, the digital indication shows 25 mm.
15. Adjustment of the return spring:
Refer to the illustration on page 14.
1. The return force on the spindle can be set by adjustment of the return spring (101).
2. Hold the tension plate (25) with a pin spanner and loosen the screw (26) with an 8 mm Allen key.
3. Increase the force of the spring by rotating the plate (25) clockwise or decrease it by rotation anticlockwise.
4. Clamp the tension plate by screw (26).
16. Spindle sleeve and drilling spindle:
Refer to the illustration on page 16.
The torsion-resistant drilling spindle (50 or 51) is held in high-quality precision roller bearings in the sleeve (52). The torque is transmitted at the upper end of the spindle from the running bush (60 or 61) through strong splines on the spindle (50 or 51). The running bush (60 or 61) serves as a load-bearing element for the various spindle pulleys.
17. Sleeve travel:
Refer to page 5, 6, 7.
The manual drilling feed is through the comfortable grip of handle (6) and pinion shaft (27) on page 14. The actual depth of drilling (80 mm max.) can be precisely set and read on the digital indication (17). Return of the sleeve (52) is done through spiral spring (101) on the center of the pinion shaft.
18. Multi-spindle heads:
The drilling machine can be fitted with multi-spindle heads. When these additional heads are ordered, the manufacturers thereof must be given the fixing dimensions of the sleeve and the drilling spindle, according to the illustration on page 15. The weight of the special head should not exceed 16 kg. If, when one of these heads is fitted, the sleeve no longer moves automatically to the upper initial position, the return spring must be suitably reset (see § 15).
19. Table height adjustment:
19.1 For standard type:
19.1.1 Release the table clamp (10).
19.1.2 The table can be swung around the column on the clamping ring (11).
19.1.3 When the clamping ring (11) is released, the table can be moved upwards or downwards.
19.2 For machines with table rack:
19.2.1 Release the table clamp (10).
19.2.2 The table can be moved up or down by hand crank (13) and also swung around the column.
Tapping:
20. Tapping with a standard machine -15 and -15 ST:
For tapping, you have to insert a tapping attachment GA from "FAHRION." First, advance the tap with the drilling lever (6) to the core hole and start cutting with moderate pressure. Then, follow it without feed pressure. The tapping attachment reverses the tap from right-hand to left-hand rotation. The drilling spindle returns to the final position.
Assembly Instructions:
21. Removing the hood:
21.1 Lift up and lock the hood (see paragraph 12).
21.2 Remove cotter pin.
21.3 Remove the hood sideways.
22. Belt change:

22.1.1 Removal of the belt between the motor and the intermediate pulley, see paragraph 13.
22.1.2 Removal of the belt between the intermediate pulley and the spindle:
22.1.2.1 See paragraph 13.2.
22.1.2.2 Remove the vee-belt (76).
22.1.2.3 Fit the belt in the reverse manner.
22.1.2.4 Push the pulley (23) back and tension the vee-belt (77).
22.1.2.5 Tighten the screws (22) firmly and fit the belt (83), see paragraph 13.
22.2 Machines SB 15 ST, TB 15 ST, TBZ 15 ST:
22.2.1 Removal of the belt between the motor and the spindle:
22.2.1.1 Dismantle the retaining strip with tachometer (3).
22.2.1.2 Set the drive to the lowest speed.
22.2.1.3 Pull the vee-belt (87) near the motor pulley to one side (see sketch) as far as possible. This makes the spindle pulley (86) open downwards and frees the belt.
22.2.1.4 The belt can then be drawn off over the rim of the motor pulley by slowly rotating the pulley by hand (see the right sketch).
23. Regulating the speed of SB 15 ST, TB 15 ST, TBZ 15 ST:
23.1 The speed can be read on the tachometer (3). If the displayed speed does not match the actual speed of the spindle, which can be checked with a revolution counter at the end of the spindle, the tachometer must be adjusted in its axial direction.
23.2 The lowest speed can be set by means of hexagon screw (29).
23.3 The maximum speed can be set by means of hexagon nut (30).
23.4 The belt may not be outside the outer diameter of the pulley.
23.5 The inner toothed surface of the belt must be clear of the pulley hub; otherwise, it will be noisy when running.
24. Removing the pinion shaft:
24.1 The tension of the return spring should first be released (see paragraph 15).
24.2 The cheese-head screw (26), tension plate (25), and return spring (101) can then be removed.
24.3 The pinion shaft (27) can then be drawn out to the right.
25. Removing the sleeve with the spindle:
25.1 The tension of the return spring (101) should first be released (see paragraph 24).
25.2 The sleeve with the spindle can then be lowered by rotation of the pinion (27).
25.3 Care should be taken that the sleeve does not slip downwards.
