Indexing Head

Range of applications:
1. Indirect indexing (for various kinds of indexing) by adjustment by means of a worm gear.
2. Direct indexing (for series production) from one notch to the next by means of the notched disc and indexing bolt.
3. Engraving of discs.
4. Engraving of cylinders by pivoting the indexing head around axle 2 by 90°.
5. Engraving of cones of any slant with pivoted indexing head.

Design of the indexing head:
The indexing head, which is mounted on clamping plate 1, swings around axle 2. Any angle from 0° to 90° can be set. The setting angle is read on scale 4. Lock the indexing head by means of socket head cap screw 3. For indirect indexing, the indexing head is set at random by means of a worm gear (reading accuracy 6°); for direct indexing by means of the notched disc, it is set according to the individual notches.

Mounting of the jaw chuck:
Introduce the centering pin of flange 6 with attached jaw chuck into the bore hole of the indexing head and fasten by means of socket head cap screw 13. For this purpose, shift aside cover 12 on the bottom side of the indexing head.

Mounting onto the work table:
The indexing head is mounted onto the work table by means of two tension bolts 3/530–U2. Align it by means of a back square held against aligning face 8.

Indirect indexing:
For indirect indexing, tension bolt 10 must be released. Setting is made by turning knurled handle 9 of the worm gear. Read on dividing ring 7 and dividing drum 5. (Reading accuracy to 0.10° = 6°).

Direct indexing:
For indexing by means of the notched disc, disengage the worm gear. Shift from one notch to the next after disengaging the spring-loaded tension bolt 10.

To disengage the worm gear:
First, unlock eccentric 19 by loosening screw 18, then disengage the worm gear by means of screw 17 by giving the bearing one-quarter turn anticlockwise.

To exchange the notched disc:
First remove cover plate 11 and unscrew socket head cap screws 14, then withdraw notched disc 16 from its seat by screwing 2 screws into the threaded holes 15.
