The universal heavy duty lathe type TCG is designed Main features for machining shatts and rolls with a max. weight up to high rigidity high rate of production high efficiency max. The lathe is manufactured in three versions surface finish of machined workpiece hardened and ground bedways hardened and ground gears and splined shafts. These lathes are manufactured with the distance hardened and ground spindle

Headstock
The headstock of rigid design provides 24 speeds within 3 ranges
Headstock, with cover removed, showing gears, shafts and lubrication system.
Headstock
The headstock is of compact and rigid design. All shafts and the spindle are supported on antifriction bearings. Shafts and gears are made out of high grade steel, heat treated and ground. The design of the headstock ensures smooth running at all spindle speeds. The drive is transmitted from the main motor through pulleys and short gear train to the spindle. The forced lubrication system is provided with the pump pack located outside the headstock for easy maintenance. The pressure switch interlocking system is applied to prevent faulty operation. Hydraulically operated, adjustable drum brake located outside the headstock on the input shaft stops the spindle effectively and smoothly. The electrical interlock enables starting the main drive motor only when the brake is released. At the highest spindle speeds within C range only three pairs of gears are engaged. Such an arrangement with a short gear train, ensures smooth running of the spindle, enabling it to obtain a high degree of surface finish.
Headstock front view
Headstock
The rigid cast steel face plate with a dia. mounted directly on the spindle. It is provided with built in 4 jaws and with extra T slots for clamping workpieces of irregular shapes.
The spindle speeds are selected in a simple way, by means of two control handwheels. The right handwheel selects the required range A, B, or C , while the left handwheel is used for selecting the speeds within the ranges. Two handles located nearby are used for the selection of feed ranges fine, standard and coarse.
Meter gauges built into the headstock control panel show the main motor loading and actual spindle speed.
Feeds per revolution and threading feeds are obtained by application of the electrical coupling between spindle and carriage by means of selsyn motors. The transmitting selsyn motors one for each carriage are flange mounted to the headstock.
Spindle
The robust spindle easily transmits the full torque and power from the main drive to the workpiece. It is made of high grade steel and arranged in the antifriction bearings of an increased accuracy. The front double row roller bearing and the spindle bore dia. The spindle has cylindrical seat for flange type 60 center. The front bearing and the face plate are mounted on taper seats.
The bed made of twin guideways is a box type design produced from high grade pearlite cast iron.
It is provided with four ways. The prismatic front way and the flat rear slide way are for guiding arid supporting the saddle. They are lined with steel strips of 60 HRc. The two inner flat ways are meant for supporting the tailstock and steady rests. On the front wall there is an oblique guideway supporting the slide of the saddle. The bed is provided with special openings and chutes facilitating the removal of chips at the rear of the lathe. The beds of lathes up to distance between centers are cast in one piece. The beds of longer lathes are cast in two or three pieces up to feet and bolted together. The bottom part of the bed is machined and adapted to set up the machine on levelling wedges. The bed width. The worm rack is located in the front part of the bed in order to obtain the saddle longitudinal feeds. The font prismatic guideway of 90 and the other ways are ground, and designed to carry very powerful cutting forces. The use of hardened inserts, high rigidity of bed castings stress relieving treatment and precise machining ensure long life and accurate operation of all assemblies set on the bed.
Saddle
The saddle is guided on hardened guideways of the bed and is provided with inner bronze liners. On the saddle plate there are dovetail shaped ways for guiding the cross slide which is equipped with compound fitted on swivelling base. Compound consists of lower and upper tool slides.
The lower tool slide is power or hand operated and can travel. Its guideways are hardened.
The upper tool slide is provided with a heavy duty single tool post or with four way tool post. The upper tool slide is hand driven only within a length of approx. Using the power drive of cross saddle and lower tool slide of compound it is possible to machine tapers by combined feeds as well as cut the threads up to besides the normal threading by using the saddle. The saddle guideways are lubricated by hand operated Willy vogel pump.
Both the saddle and the headstock are controlled from movable control panel located on the saddle.
Milling head, grinding head or hydraulic copying attachment TKC 40 can be mounted on the cross saddle after removing swivelling base compound .
Apron
The levers located on the front of the apron are used
for selecting various feeds and threads according to feed and thread chart. The far left hand lever is used for selecting inch or metric feeds or threads.
The center left hand lever is used for selecting left or right hand threads. The near left hand double levers are used for selecting required feeds or threads. The right hand lever is used for selecting feeds per minute or threads feeds per revolution. The apron is furnished with a set of change gears for taper turning by means of compound feeds. Hardened and ground transmission gears and shafts, running in the antifriction bearings, ensure long life of the apron mechanism. The apron is provided with electromagnetic clutches for easy push button operation.
The apron itself has an electric pump for automatic lubrication. The construction of the apron is highly compact and sturdy for heavy cutting. Apron with cover removed, showing gears, shafts and clutches.
Apron
The apron is fitted to the saddle base.
The receiving selsyn motor is located on the right handside of the apron permits a selection of working feeds and threads through the use of gears, clutches and worm rack unit. The AC motor located on the lefthand side of the apron actuates minute feeds and rapid traverse. The cross slide feeds are half of longitudinal feeds.
The top slide feeds and threads are four times smaller than the longitudinal feeds and threads.
Tailstock
The tailstock travels along inner flat bedways. The tailstock body slideways have bronze lining strips.
The position of the tailstock on the bed is set up by means of a pawl ratchet fastened by lug relief to the bed. Additionally, the tailstock is fixed by means of inner grips to the bottom part of guideways. The tailstock quill of dia. has mechanical travel up to a max. The tailstock spindle is arranged in the quill on antifriction precision roller bearings. Constant pressure of the tailstock center to the workpiece is ensured by the application of disc springs compensating the temperature influence. The pressure force rate shows an indicator gauge located on the tailstock body. The upper part of the tailstock can be traversed from the machine axis by The tailstock travel along the bed is effected mechanically by means of a special gearbox. All movements are controlled from the tailstock control panel.

On each saddle there is the possibility of installing extra equipment such as hydraulic copying attachment, grinding or milling heads.
Special equipment
Numbers
Travelling steady rest follower mounted on the cross slide is used for supporting the shafts of small diameter or low rigidity, during turning operations. The rigid design of stationary steady rests with rollers mounted in roller bearings, supported on both ends allows for the use of the machine for turning workpieces of heavy weight.
The traverse of steady rests is performed by means
of the saddle and suitable catches. Both guideways
and slides are lubricated by a hand operated Willy
Vogel pump.
Hydraulic copying attachment type TKC 40
The hydraulic copying attachment type TKC 40 can be supplied on special order at extra cost. It enables longitudinal, transverse and internal copying.
lnternal copying
The lathe can be provided with hydraulic copying By use of TKC 40 attachment, longitudinal, attachment type TKC 40. The copying attachment transverse and internal copying can be executed. consists of a copying slide with toolpost, oіl tank The construction of the template bracket enables with pump and template fixing device for long displacement of it along the bed and thus ensures tudinal and transverse copying. There can also be copying on the whole length of the workpiece. Electrical copying attachment. The electrical copying attachment system consists of specially designed apron with electromagnetic clutches, tracing gauge and template supports.
The installation, on the lathe, of the electrical copying attachment stops the possibility of cutting threads, taper turning by means of compound feeds, and does not provide for minute feeds. The electrical copying attachment can be specially fitted with additional equipment for thread cutting with the top
Length of copying using Heid stylus situated on the
front of the machine is obtainable up to 5 m
196 only. In the case of copying longer workpiece the stylus is mounted at the rear side of
the machine.
Milling and drilling head
By using the milling and drilling head, it is possible to obtain the following operations milling surfaces and slots parallel to the lathe axis drilling holes perpendicular to the lathe axis
This head is mounted on the cross slide. The spindle drive is obtained from the motor by means of vee belts and gear systems.
Coolant system
The coolant unit consists of tank located in the machine foundation, an electric pump supplying coolant, connecting pipes conducted in the cable conveyor.
Grinding head
The grinding head is mounted on the top slide of the saddle. This arrangement allows grinding tapers by means of compound feeds. The drive is transmitted from the motor to the grinding spindle by means of vee belts.
Heavy duty Deep Hole Lathe
This machine tool is executed on the design basis of the Lathe TCG 160 and TCG 200 respectively. The special boring tailstock is equipped with a motor that allows infinitely variable adjustments of boring bar working feeds.
