GM3H D-1005 The DIATOS 602 is a heavy cylindrical grinding machine design.
The DIAT0S 602 is a heavy cylindrical grinding machine designed for optirnum machining of conventional or mounted rod rolls.

The machine was primary designed with two points in view:
1. Different grinding techniques for the machining of a wide variety of materials with diamondor CBN grinding wheels.
2. Size and stability for rolls up co a diameter of 630 mm, a length of 2000 mm and in weight.

The DIATOS 602, like the DIAT0S 501, is a machine designed for cylindrical grinding. Its basic. design corresponds to the construction principles for this kind of machine. Processing of red steel wire rods is, or rolls with corresponding cylinders in cast iron or grinding wheels with diamond. The technique of mechanical and electrolytic deep grinding, developed and carried out with great success by WENDT, for the machining of geometrically different tungsten carbide rod rings with diamond grinding wheels. Mechanical deep grinding for the machining of different alloyed steel rolls with CBN grinding wheels. In exceptional cases, it is also possible to equip the machine with conventional grinding wheels, either corundum or silicon carbide, for normal grinding. These machining techniques can be put into practice with the DIATOS 602 rod roll grinder.

The workpiece spindle head of the DIATOS 602 incorporates two infinitely variable rotation speed ranges: for mechanical and electrolytic deep grinding range 2.0 rpm, and for mechanical plunge-cut grinding and conventional grinding range. Besides small forward feeds, plunge-cut and deep grinding demand smooth machine operation. The advanced construction of the workpiece spindle head of the DIATOS 602 meets this requirement, even with grinding pressures of 250 kg between the wheel and the workpiece, despite the unusually low rotation speed range of 0.01 to 2.0 rpm. The grinding spindle assembly of the DIATOS 602 is equipped with a high-quality roller bearing spindle. It is driven by a three-phase pole-changing A.C. motor with a maximum output of 30 kW.

These specifications clearly show that the grinding spindle assembly of the DIATOS 602 meets the essential requirements for economic application of high-speed grinding, as well as deep grinding.

The set rotation speeds of the grinding spindle are determined to achieve optimum cutting speeds for profile wheel diameters of 200 mm, allowing for optimal cutting speeds of for grinding of various materials such as tungsten carbide, steel, and cast iron. The drive of the spindle is achieved through a specially designed vibration-absorbing belt drive. The grinding wheels for the grinding wheels, metal-bonded diamond or CBN grinding wheels are used for the grinding of camber of the rolls, profile wheels for the groove grinding, and dressing machine for profile grinding wheels.

Due to this special technique, the profile wheels are distinguished by a high dimensional stability. In contrast to conventional grinding wheels, these considerably reduce dressing times and provide the conditions for an automatic machining operation from the first groove to the last.

The D1AT05 602 roll grinder, together with WENDT diamond and CBN grinding wheels, as well as the WDM 15 dressing machine, offers an optimal solution to their machining problems.

We have been able to develop a diamond grinding wheel which can be used for both tungsten carbide and chilled cast iron. Diamond size and bond specification are identical for both cases of application. This means a decisive advantage concerning the application and storage of grinding wheels.

Roll rings with alloying constituents especially for use in copper rod rolling are machined with CBN grinding wheels.

The DIATOS 602 is equipped with operating programs for the different materials which are to be ground corresponding to the necessary grinding technique.

Grinding of chilled cast iron with diamond:

In this machining operation, unusually high removal rates of up to 25 cm3/min for peripheral grinding as well as for profile grinding can be achieved. The basic condition for this is the application of high-speed grinding in combination with plunge-cut grinding, sufficient drive, and wear-resistant diamond grinding.

Grinding of tungsten carbide with diamond:

The optimal cutting speed is 15 m/s. If large volumes are to be removed, the removal rate can be increased and the wear on the wheel decreased by additional electrolytic machining.

Grinding of steel with CBN:

The machining takes place under the same conditions as for the grinding of tungsten carbide. Only the cutting speed stands at 30 m/s in accordance with the different material properties for tungsten carbide. The finish is also executed with a higher workpiece rotation speed.
